I always enjoy seeing your recipes for chook treats Marie. I think to myself, "I'd like to try that" then I can't find the post again.

Have you considered doing an article containing all your recipes? I'd love to see them all in one place.
That sounds like a great idea !

Bob, can you elaborate on the heat index? What is that measuring exactly?
The heat index is also known as the apparent temperature. It measures what the temperature feels like to the body when relative humidity is combined with the air temperature.

This has important considerations for cooling. When the body gets too hot, it begins to perspire or sweat to cool itself off. If the perspiration is not able to evaporate, the body cannot regulate its temperature.

Evaporation is a cooling process. When perspiration is evaporated off the body, it effectively reduces the body's temperature. When the atmospheric moisture content (i.e. relative humidity) is high, the rate of evaporation from the body decreases.

The body actually feels cooler in arid conditions. There is direct relationship between the air temperature and relative humidity and the heat index, meaning as the air temperature and relative humidity increase (decrease), the heat index increases (decreases).

The phrase, "It's a dry heat" comes from this.

Around here we usually have very high humidity when we get high heat. It is that much harder to cool off.

How do you stop them?
This may not work for you.

I am very mean to them and chase them when they try to arrive. Mine fly in. I will monitor the pool like a watch dog for several days in a row. I will chase them while they are trying to land or just after I hear them splash down. I look like an idiot flapping my arms and screaming at them but it works.

This is Coal and his chickens.

When I first got chicks I was terrified that my playful pup would hurt would. He is the sweetest soul, so I never should have worried. He has proven to be the flocks dear friend and hopefully will always be their fiercest protector.

Does anyone else have a dog who thinks he/she is a chicken?
My dogs defer to the chickens. 😋

I need to see a video of this. :lau
