I really need to get something off my chest:
Rocks-Ann is just too heavy to be sitting on me for this long! View attachment 2745132
Rosie was screaming earlier, and finally found her way into the house, so I picked her up to see if she would quiet down. She seemed surprised, she used to like being held or sitting with me, but not so much anymore. Today she just looked around content, until the hand holding her right foot started to give out (she was getting heavy!) when she burst from my arms. Amazingly she didn't crash into anything in our tiny kitchen.

Here are here associates this morning, that bare patch on Alintas neck is due mostly to Brenna picking in her starting when she was going broody. It hasn't stopped.

Here they are with a before picture of the area at the very front of our yard, we have been working hard.

I have to go get one from the same angle, but here is a long shot. The winter squash in the area we tore up months ago.

Hens in Heaven

After nearly 2 full days of thunderstorms and rain, it finally blew itself out today and the sun came out. The chickens were living a dream. Sunny, temps in the mid 70s, no humidity, and a light breeze.

They were so excited by the good weather they were wandering around without being undercover. Fortunately the hawks must have also been confused by the nice weather and they got away with it. Here they are enjoying the spectacular weather.

Now they are all roosted. Check out the difference between the coop two nights ago and tonight.

It was so nice that BY Bob napped outside for an undetermined amount of time with the tribe. 😴💤

What a splendid day. 😁

What do you do with your chickens during firework season?
Hmmm, they aren't going to like the noise. They go into the coop by 8:45 and are closed up at 9:25, so they won't be feeling exposed at least.

We don't have really close neighbors, but one year a new guy on the other side of the hill and higher elevation shot rockets our way.....we were watching TV, and in the picture window next to it we saw this flare-like thing come sailing towards us over the trees....it landed on our roof! Luckily rolled off as it's a fairly flat (12 / 1) slope...nothing caught fire....some time later we became acquainted and told him about it, he shoots 'em some other way now.

This may not work for you.

I am very mean to them and chase them when they try to arrive. Mine fly in. I will monitor the pool like a watch dog for several days in a row. I will chase them while they are trying to land or just after I hear them splash down. I look like an idiot flapping my arms and screaming at them but it works.
I'll bring Rex next year. He'll have a blast chasing them in the pool!! 🤣
