Hawk attack. I think she squirmed away somehow, and it went after Queenie and got her :hit Butters had the hackles on the back of her neck all plucked out, maybe it had grabbed her there with it's beak? I found them in two big bunches. And her shoulders and back lost some feathers in spots. I assume the talons were grabbing her and at those points she got pretty hurt. I didn't find any deep wounds though and no significant bleeding.
I remember now. :(:hugsSo sorry to have brought it all back. :hugs:hugs

I wonder if the rest of her feathers will change colour to match at her next moult?

Hubby and I were enjoying the garden this morning when I noticed Edwina stalking across the grass picking up twigs and leaves and tossing some of them over her shoulder.

Sure enough, there was an egg in the nest box. 😂

She is looking great! I am glad she has the egg-laying thing down because the same cannot be said of her nest building!

RIP Queenie. :love

Is "hot poultry netting" electrified? If so nothing is getting through it. If not, yes it is possible a mink could get in that way.
Yes, electrified, and it is on all the time, 8k volts, except when I move it, sometimes even then for minor fixes. I just got the proper gate up yesterday after the last move, been tipping the connecting pole away instead to go through, with it hot for the last week. I'm hyper vigilant with it, I'll take a shock rather than forget to put it back on, and when you've got rubber boots or clogs on it's not bad.

If the chickens were to hit it now they will run further into the coop or go back into the runs I think, as it's not near the house now. That's what they've been doing with any alarm call when I've been out with them.

Aurora does this, I just don't understand why?

Sounds like you are set then unless I am missing something else.
