Thanks for asking. She seems fine. Eating well. Running to me when I come outside. Soft crop and clean vent though I did clean off some crustiness on the fluffy butt.

How do you check the soles of their feet? I had a feel and they were soft and cool, no hot spots, but I couldn't figure out how to look at the base. :idunno

She is roosting on the perch tonight.

"Anything to eat in there?"

She is SO! cute!!

She's
Have a look at the back of Alice's head.
Since her last moult she has had a few much lighter feathers there. I think it looks odd. It makes the rest of her feathers look dirty.

She also has a bit of a "puff" of feathers just below each ear. Like a mini version of Aurora's muff. 😁
like us, White hair ladies

Ruby roosted tonight. Yay! I also saw her eat pellet feed in the morning. Double yay! She’s still weak, but she “spoke” a little today. Her voice was quiet, but she’s usually a talker and I was glad to hear her.
Wonderful video! Ruby is doing pretty well, all things considered. It seems she may be having more good then bad days. 👍

Names at last

This is Katydid. She's the most inquisitive, always trying to figure out what's going on and willing to jump to find out. She's very orange.

This is Shirina. (With a soft r). She used to enjoy being held, but now likes to jump away. Feathers coming in white in the front and black in the back.

This is Alba, named for Tyto Alba, the scientific name of the barn owl. She has a very raspy songbird voice and gained weight very fast.

This is Rime. She likes to scream and squirm when being moved. Feathers are coming in all white.

This is little Platina. She's been getting a lot better and now only has an occasional cough. Her new favorite thing is running away when we try to give her medicine.
so adorable! Love their names. Little Platina is very cute!!

I am all caught up, you all had a busy night! and morning
One of the White leghorns, when she was small always would jump from the roost onto my back while I scooped under the roosts. She would stay there while I cleaned up each morning.
When I got the new Brown LH's, there is one the always tried to escape the brooder, would get up on the top of the feed & water jugs. When I took the out to the coop, she went further and would jump up on my head every time I went to the coop, I guess i was mamma hen lololol.
One day June 5th, I sat in the door way of the coop with the chicks. they all had a good time getting up on my knee, arm and yes, my head.

Last month when my son came over, he sat there while I kept Bob at bay so the grandkids could visit the chicks. Well the jumper didnt disappoint, she got up on my sons head, he has a LG flock so he didnt mind, lololo junt no pooping!

For what it's worth I hate having my picture taken. I'd much rather be the one behind the camera. But here is one more of me and Blueberry last night.
DSCN4504.JPG

Now when I refer to her as a wild child I do not mean she was feral or untouchable. She could be touched at roosting time, but being broody raised she didn't appreciate being handled. Clover was a good momma with her, she taught them I gave out treats but she did not allow handling of her chicks very much so Blueberry and her group were skittish. When Clover was done being their momma as a whole I was able to tame the group somewhat but they still did not like hands on touching. I knew once her siblings were gone and I could focus on her one on one it wouldn't take long to make her friendlier. I just did not expect her to become a attention hog, especially this fast. I now have her and Raven fighting on who is on my shoulder or back. These girls also are proving that Drumsticks personality is dominating in the genes. Raven and Pumpkin are Henrietta's daughters, and Blueberry is Henrietta's granddaughter. Bread was her momma. Both Henrietta and Bread are look but don't touch hens and catching them is and was a task in itself when they need to be handled. Even the chicks that momma hen has raised that were Drumsticks offspring become friendly towards me. Her current gang of 10 are starting to hang around me much to her protest and dismay. Squirrel and Basil also were able to be tamed and turned into love bugs within a week of her letting them go when for the first 6 weeks any sort of physical contact with them resulted in a flogging on Momma's part. All the more reason I love my boy and just Marans in general. If anyone is looking for big friendly chickens I highly recommend them.

In case anyone is wondering how the "Taming the Blueberry" is going. I think this picture says it all. My new little buddy, in under 2 days she's went from wild child to attention hog.
