I arrived at my sisters a bit after 5pm and as one might expect went straight outside to see the chickens. The last time I was here was mid May. As soon as I sat down Chick, the most junior hen jumped onto my lap and Mini set about giving my trouser leg a good grooming. I spent much of the evening outside with the chickens in between the shower bursts.
According to my sister, Freya, the Swedish Flower hen who is the eldest, is becoming very rooster like in her behaviour even trying to mate with Mini, the Silky hen. I watched Freya give out her bits of walnut to the others by calling them and making the head nodding Iâve found food motions roosters do.
Freya has stopped laying eggs and according to my sister, since she stopped her behaviour has been more rooster like than hen like.
Here's Freya with Mo and Chick. Mini is laying an egg.
