It LITERALLY has not stopped raining since I posted that video this morning, no breaks anywhere. Lucy and Chickie pretty much spent the entire day next to the house under the eaves and Charlie ducked off to lay an egg (I let her stay there!) I chucked some oats at them as I’m pretty sure they hadn’t eaten much, if anything.

Now there are various flood warnings. There has been some rain over the fire-affected areas and hopefully the dams too. It’s meant to keep this up until Thursday.
Oh dear. Poor birds. Hang in there!

The funny thing is, if you go back to the beginning of our journey with chickens, I did not want them. I simply could not deny her. Her desires for those Fluffy chicks were undeniable. That decision, giving in to her, has brought me more joy than I ever imagined.

So here I go again. Fingers crossed that I can manage the flock and that this Polish lady brings us years of joy.

Yes sir iremember! U knew she would get bored with the daily tending but you picked it up for yourself :bow :love

There are many fewer fires on the fire service app now. :clap

The fires in my area and most of New South Wales are listed as “under control”. I imagine that there are still some tree stumps and roots that are smouldering in the affected areas that could flare up again given the right conditions, but we have had so much rain that many rivers are bursting their banks and now flooding is a problem. :idunno

I spent several hours out in the rain today trying to make the run more habitable for the girls. I spread 4 bales of sugar cane mulch and rigged a tarp up over the big coop to create more shelter.

All the girls are wet and bedraggled poor things.

We are expecting a thunder storm tonight with 100% chance of rain for the next seven days!

I think I need to buy another tarp....
Tarps are great! Secure them tightly. On the odd time we get a heavy storm, I also wrap tarps around the upwind side of the run. My coop is to big enough for them to hang out in all day, and keeping half the run somewhat dry helps.

Good luck today! Enjoy your new fluffy butts!

In any democracy there is give and take. I have given on this point. It's not worth even discussing. She wants a Polish so a Polish there will be.

As I relate stories of them in the future remember how she came to join the flock.
You are a good man, Bob. If there is trouble, you can always trim her bangs! In all honesty, I have a friend with a mixed flock and she had three bantams (polish, silky, and another that looked like a mi katie’s brown leghorn... not sure if the breed) and they did fine. Her silky always raised the chicks she got at the feed store. If there’s trouble, you can always trim her bangs so she can see. :)

The plan is to keep her trimmed up. My wife is so excited she has already named her, Phyllis D.
