Good luck Bob! I recall Mrs Bob has been wanting Polish for a long time.

My instinct is take all three tomorrow and hope the flock is solid before the Leghorn mix arrives. After all, the Leghorn mixes could turn out cockerels.

Maybe Mrs Bob can help you refuse the undoubtedly adorable young Wyandotte.

Me too. I think all 3 is the answer and then a coop extension project. Update on my Maggie, no lice, ears look fine. I am not her favorite person today for disturbing her beauty sleep and turning her every which way. I think she has a touch of frost-bite on her comb but not where she was scratching and a small cut above her eye - I think the whole wattle situation was just drips. Going to look again at the eye after treats today.

What she said.
Probably not what you want to read Bob but now would be a good time to exercise a bit of self control.
I wouldn't keep any ornamental breeds with your current flock.
There, I've been responsible.:)

In any democracy there is give and take. I have given on this point. It's not worth even discussing. She wants a Polish so a Polish there will be.

As I relate stories of them in the future remember how she came to join the flock.

See, I wasn't game to be that blunt....😶 I really had to work to keep Lottie out of trouble in the beginning & it's caused jealousy 'cause everyone knows she gets special treatment. And she doesn't have a crest or other stuff to make her a target. Could you get a 2nd Polish
& run them separately?

Unfortunately I am not set up for that. She is going to be with the others. I have plenty of space for her to get away. I just hope she is quick. I will have to be alert and see what other adjustments I need to make.

There are many fewer fires on the fire service app now. :clap

The fires in my area and most of New South Wales are listed as “under control”. I imagine that there are still some tree stumps and roots that are smouldering in the affected areas that could flare up again given the right conditions, but we have had so much rain that many rivers are bursting their banks and now flooding is a problem. :idunno

I spent several hours out in the rain today trying to make the run more habitable for the girls. I spread 4 bales of sugar cane mulch and rigged a tarp up over the big coop to create more shelter.

All the girls are wet and bedraggled poor things.

We are expecting a thunder storm tonight with 100% chance of rain for the next seven days!

I think I need to buy another tarp....

Wow. I guess the rainy season has arrived. Is it always like this?

The Polish has been a wish of her's for years. I have twice expanded the flock and used the "none are available" excuse. Now someone offers one up to her.

There is no denying the Polish and no point in fighting it.

Frankly I would have waited to do anything with the flock but here comes the Polish hen. It's a done deal. I need to make it work. That is my role in all of this and one of the reasons we have been married for 30+ years. I understand my role.

That is good news. I'm very glad she is ok.

:lau my husband could learn a thing or three from you!

The funny thing is, if you go back to the beginning of our journey with chickens, I did not want them. I simply could not deny her. Her desires for those Fluffy chicks were undeniable. That decision, giving in to her, has brought me more joy than I ever imagined.

So here I go again. Fingers crossed that I can manage the flock and that this Polish lady brings us years of joy.
