The Cluckle Hut is fabulous. I really like that you mounted the baby roost at 90° angle to the big roost because they might be able to escape any roosting pecks from Phyllis by running along it and out of range

That was the idea. Also they can use it to jump up to the higher roost as well.

I had to buy eggs last year and it felt wrong on so many levels!

I have to buy every winter. No way around it. I only buy from chickens where I know the living conditions.

I never identified it. Likely a hawk around here.

Speaking of hawks, one visited again late this afternoon. It swooped low across the yard. I did my best to do the alarm call and most ran for cover, but a few of the younger ones were clueless. I tossed the ball to place the dog where the hawk was sure to see her (she’s very fast!) I also marched in the hawk’s direction when it was perched on a power pole and declared, “I see you, hawk!” I continued to show the dog to the hawk and it left. When my neighbor drove in, I told him about the encounter and he shared a recent bald eagle sighting. I know they live here, but usually (and rarely) only see them near the reservoir, except once when I saw one soaring WAY up high near our place. Apparently my neighbor’s sighting was right nearby. Good to know, since a bald eagle could easily lift and carry a hen away. My brother-in-law witnessed a golden eagle grab his cat and fly off with it.

Final Roosting on BY Bob

Every night when I bring the girls inside from their little run they roost on my arm. When we get to my office then they hang out on my arm and from themselves, even nap for a while.

Here they are last night. For the first time someone slips off my arm.

Because of that they adjusted their roosting location. I was a little worried about my head. After all there is precidence.

I LOVE THEM!!! You’re pretty adorable, too, Bob. Just sayin.’

I have been training them for weeks now.

Just kidding.

They are the sweetest of all the chicks I have raised. I am having a real problem moving them outside. They are still in the house this morning.

Awww… sorry to have missed all this. It was a tough and busy week.
