That's an interesting idea. I've been looking at the plants above them and can't tell for sure.Have you found out what those tiny bulbs are? Maybe try growing them in the house so you can find out what the above ground plant looks like.

He just likes you for your feather dusters. That's OK. I am too & Shad still talks to me.
I never thought you had looked it up. I was laughing with you, for you, that you were correct in your guessed/vaguely known answer!I don't know why everyone is laughing - I really didn't look it up.
I think it must have been something I read years ago and it hung around in the dusty corners of my brain. I wish I could recall things like where I put the car keys as easily!

How can you feed 10 lbs of SFL to your small tribe? It must take a while to go through them. Yes, it’s cheaper in bulk quantities, but I can’t trust my PO Box to have 10 lbs delivered to me. (It’s a very small post office, in an even smaller town)That's a mighty small bag, or do they each get their own?
I buy 10 lbs at a time.
I thought Oxalis was meant to be toxic for chickens? I downloaded a plant list (I think from BYC) but I can't find it.To me, the tubers looked a little like soursob bulbs (oxalis) which are considered an exquisite delicacy by the hens at my house.

I think you explained it perfectly.I mentioned on this thread somewhere that once I had left Spain and the tribes behind what I would like is to look after Ex Batts. After the years I've spent trying to take care of chickens, I've got to the point where I can accept they will die, probably very quickly, and although I will come to love them, I now have the strength to let them go.
I've never owned my own chickens, I've never bought or sold a live creature.
These poor Ex Batts need help and helping them helps me in some strange way.
I don't think I can ever explain it well.
When my fingers are coated with something yummy feeding them, Peanut wants to get my whole finger tip in her mouth and grabs it. She tries every now and then. It doesn't hurt very much I guess because it's the beak sides I feel. Better than a strong peck at a bit of something held between my fingers! That hurts.Mine got some dry cat food because the beef liver is not yet cooked.
Dotty overcame her dislike of me to eat some from my hand. For a while my heart melted. Then she decided eating from my hand wasn't as good as actually eating my hand. OUCH! Nobody else does that. Nobody.
Nope - oxalis is wood sorrel which is known to be loved by chickens. I knew that but did not realize that it had tubers and that they are the yummy part.I thought Oxalis was meant to be toxic for chickens? I downloaded a plant list (I think from BYC) but I can't find it.![]()
Although that's how Edwina, Pepper and Alice get the low-down on the Phyllistinies! (shameless self-promotion from Ribh's thread.)BeakBook is a real menace!
