I remember that post. Interestingly mine don’t seem that freaked by the Turkey Vultures. They alert and then seem to take their queue from the other birds around. This is from last April at my house!

They should like it plain.Good evening
I've been given the flesh of a pumpkin with seeds for my chickens. Would cooking it in a casserole be okay?
I resemble that remark! You are so "corny" how do you ever run out?![]()
She is learning. What do you think she is asking Phyllis about in the morning and evening?Looking very ladylike!
Exactly! And move on a week and it gets worse. I go the darkest purple!Holy cow. It looks like they arrive in November and stay all winter! That really aligns with my anecdotal observations. I live where hawks go to winter!
Here is a snapshot of Nov 2. Crazy.

Wow! That is a lot of raptors to deal with. That is more like the civil defense identifying Japanese planes during WW2!This is such an awesome post. Thank you! Yep, it’d that typical cal #2 I’ve been hearing lately. Red Tail Hawks (plus sharp shinned, Cooper’s, and red shouldered, as well as golden and bald eagles and great horned owls) live here, but some are more elusive than others!
We really must be in a different world at my house. We've had chickens for two and a half years now and still not had one predator incident of any kind. We see the big raptors flying up high and have smelled a skunk a few times, but that's it. No other sign that a predator even exists. Our chickens free range unsupervised all day every day, except they almost never will venture out onto snow. There was even one time where we were out of town for a few days with the door to the coop wide open. Everyone was perfectly fine when we got back. Weird, eh? I hope I didn't just jinx it by telling you.Same where I live. I hate the time of year where they get zero mid-week free ranging time. They get almost all day on weekends, but weekdays don’t work, since I am not home for any daylight hours. I’m considering letting them range unsupervised, but probably won’t go there. I’d love to put up a giant aviary where I could have a few bushes and small trees for them. At least for now I can get the little grow boxes going. They love those! I got some leaves into the run, but the rain hit early before I could get more.
That advice from Michelle worked wonderfully.I find it interesting that this thread now has a fairly wide range of experience in chicken keeping. Given Ribh with her nutters posts here and MJ with her small flock experiences as well a lot of the problems are reasonnably well covered.
I haven't seen many problems where the ER regulars have come up with better advice.
