The Cluckle Hut is Painted

A color was chosen and painting undertaken. The outside was completed today. Inside the run will be another day. The roof of the nest box will be white like the Big Coop.

My lovely Agatha is trying to lay an egg but her shells always break. I've told her she doesn't need to lay anymore but she keeps trying

How thin are the shells? The Buckeyes are not particularly gentle with their eggs. I've seen them go in to the best box and stand there checking it out, with a foot resting right on a ceramic egg. I do wonder if they know the difference!

Didn’t we work out that saline isn’t good for chicken eyes, but rather boiled and cooled plain water? I might have to pay SHRA tax I realise.

Saline is fine as a rinse for eyes.

If you ask me, they are cuckoo marans, The barring is not distinct (though, way too much white in the barring for GIRLS of either. Probably supposed to be the iconic Barred rock, though

Of course, one wouldn't want to have your new home painted, only to find it wasn't done properly & needed to be redone, now would one?

That color actually makes the 'orange' in their feathers 'pop' so nicely in the pic!!

Partial payment of my overdue Chicken Tax.
They are Dark Cornish boys. I love this breed (second only to my BRs)
3 of my 5 DC think I am 'their' hen/flock.

She ate today and was more active as we had beautiful weather. The whole tribe free ranged all day and had a great day.

The window on the coop is closed and it is holding a good temp inside so far.

Great! I recently got two of these. Thankfully, Flo roosted beside the wall, and I was able to prop one up beside her. I hope she feels its warmth and doesn’t knock it down.
