Beautiful shots! Love the single tailfeather sticking up on Penny, and the feather delineation on Rosa!
Thanks! I am not sure what is going on with Penny's moult. She was broody for several weeks September - October, but has started up laying again. Some of her feathers definitely need replacing. Maybe she is working at it slowly.

Meanwhile Rosa looks pretty good. I don't see any signs of her moulting. She is still laying despite the lower levels of light.

My hens are all 1.5 years old, so I am curious how this winter will go with regards to laying. They all laid through last winter, but they were just getting started then.

Minnie flaunting the new striped patch in the middle of her chest and shedding feathers at every step.

Tina looks the same but I'm seeing amber plucking her a lot. Amber's nasty at times and molting I don't know what's going on with her :(

This spell check keeps altering my words even when I correct them back :(. I wrote molting twice and again now and it keeps altering it to melting.

Wonderful assortment of mugs!

Melting for molting is somehow a particularly cruel substitute as our poor half-naked chickens endure below freezing temperatures!

I'm sorry Shad. It's never easy. :hugs :hugs

At least you gave her life some pleasant days and the knowledge that their is kindness in the world.
I spoke of sharach too a lovely person that also rescues battery hens and like shadrach he's only ever had rescue's

So I've met two chicken whisperer s ow. One online and one in life :D

@sharach. I'm really saddened to know you lost her. I so hope the little one that's alone finds a friend soon

Yes. Approaching winter was on my mind too. I had not remembered that she did not molt last year. I can see why you are worried.
Have you seen any new feathering happen anywhere?
Keep us posted. Vet sounds like a good idea.
Yes, if you look she does have some new nontattered feathers and her bum is mostly covered in new fluff. So she has replaced some.

Silver has been shedding feathers since July. She still has ratty tail feathers and others that look like plants closing for the night. I'll try to get some clear shots, but even her mug has some breast feathers askew. Not great shots, but...hopefully I can get some good closeups. Saw a spot on the side of her foot last night that has me wondering if she's got a bit of a bumble so snagging her tonight for a foot soak with mealy worms.View attachment 2899288View attachment 2899289View attachment 2899290
