My "besties" seem to rotate depending on who Cheetah is courting.

I once had a BO, her name was Daisy. She passed some time ago, but she still lives proudly in my heart. Just like your penny, she was fluffy, friendly and sweet. She calmly passed of old age as she was very old. I now have a small flock of just 2 chickens, 2 Rhode Island Red Hens Spice and Henny Penny. They are just about 2 years old now and have started molting. Not now, but in this coming spring, I will be getting a new flock, maybe somewhere between 20 and 30 chickens, maybe more. I am thinking strongly on white leghorns,BOs, Silkies, Marans, Golden or Silver laced Wyandottes, bantams, okay! Maybe a big mix of all different breeds! Thanks! I am not sure what is going on with Penny's moult. She was broody for several weeks September - October, but has started up laying again. Some of her feathers definitely need replacing. Maybe she is working at it slowly.
Meanwhile Rosa looks pretty good. I don't see any signs of her moulting. She is still laying despite the lower levels of light.
My hens are all 1.5 years old, so I am curious how this winter will go with regards to laying. They all laid through last winter, but they were just getting started then.
Little Xzit has lost tail feathers and weight? None of the other newer Rocks are. She may be sick? I don’t know why.![]()
Sounds like you will have your hands full next summer! I hope that you will keep us posted when you get your new flock.I once had a BO, her name was Daisy. She’s not even one year old yet. I will try and get a pictureHow old is she? I may know why.
Okay, I hate to alarm you, but all of her symptoms are the general signs of an external parasite infection, you can buy poultry dust, and other medications for this at your local feed store, try putting some garlic or garlic juice in her diet, try to catch her, put on some gloves, and go through her feathers, you might see some mites, and other parasites. Give her a warm bath in salt water and that may remove most of the parasites on her.*Edit* please do not listen to any of my advice.None of it is any good. She’s not even one year old yet. I will try and get a picture
