Belle is back to roosting and has laid her sparrow sized eggs the past 2 days.
It ended up taking 3 nights in the crate to break her broodiness and each day I let her out to hang and roam the yard with Snow.
She slept in the nest box despite my best efforts for a few nights after the cage went away but was coming out in the mornings so I wasn’t too fussed.
Currently it is nap time…

When I finally got home I found Sylvie alone huddled in nest box 2.

I coaxed her out (video on that later), and we took a ride to the big run.

After hanging out for a while and eating some purple corn, it was time for bed as darkness comes quick this time of year. She wanted to sleep on the big roost tonight and so I decided to help her.

They are sleeping together right now.

Sylvie kept getting up and trying to get closer to Phyllis. Once she got close enough to try and burrow beneath Phyllis like she used to do with Legertha. 😢 Phyllis did not like that at all. I left that up to Phyllis to resolve.
I am glad you are home brother, I am sorry for what you and Rose went through

This is sweet. Is almond oil a good thing to put on their combs and wattles? Since it's edible I'm thinking yes, better than Vaseline? I have not done either, but if this is something chickens might enjoy I would try it and see if the Buckeyes like it. I know I would like it. They aren't lap chickens and I don't handle them much unless I need to see something close up on them, and now they're molting I haven't at all. They do like to be very close, will forage and hang out underfoot, and groom my clothes when next to me (or explore folds and eat pilled fiber, more likely!)

Welcome back. :hugs

Got some pictures today. I could not get any fluffy butts! Butters and Popcorn are getting new eyebrow feathers, they sort of appear bald there but I see tiny white pins. Their faces are quite white now.
While putting up plastic and cardboard wind barriers, they all came over to forage under the chairs and around my feet, so I tried to get pictures.

More pics, it's pretty wet in spots, but under the coop is dry leaves and dry hemp. When they eat the grass down here I'll put in wood chips, chopped hemp and rice hulls. That blue thing is their dirt moveable bath pool, it's working out, I like it especially because they tend to hop/climb in with a foot on the top edge and it's soft and bendable. This summer they both bathed there and in a natural hole under the lilac bush.
