I doubt the viability of the eggs. Could just be a clutch of them, that several birds laid. (Jaffar is on his game, but not very accurate) Don’t tell him that I said that. :bow
To me if it is eggs from several birds you've increased your odds of success. Also about Jaffar's accuracy, if you had ever saw Drumstick half the time you would have thought he had no clue what he was doing. Yet from the first clutch I hatched he sired to the last I think he fathered about 100 chicks maybe more. How long has she been sitting? Has it been about a week and a half yet? If her nest is easily accessible to you, I suggest taking a bright flashlight and candling the eggs. If she's that far along you should be able to see dancing embryo's.

Bout a week and a half. (All are brown eggs) I could try that, thanks :hugs

Does he look like he does anything in private? (Sorry, no spoiler for sexual content, I don’t know how to add it) but being a “Fluffy Butt” thread, maybe I’m forgiven? 6188F0F3-9FFB-431F-BB24-0DDC352C876C.jpeg

I'm stopping at 2 because I want to keep the number below 25. I have a feeling its going to take a bit to find exactly what I want so I'm starting the search now. There is one ad that intrigues me but it has to be a no go. A group of 5 paints that for the most part are gorgeous and just at a year old. The downfall, the breeder is getting out of paints and is insisting they go as a group and 1 of them is a Rooster. To top it off the Roo is a showgirl silkie. That is a hard fast nope, no naked necks for me even though the hens are lovely.
That was me teasing you and being an enabler. 😉

I hope the right girls come along for you soon. :fl

Light brown eggs you should still be able to see through. It's when you get the darker brown eggs that I have difficulty with. Those I assume they are good until about day 18 when I'll candle them. By then they will either light up like a christmas tree and be non viable or be completely dark and ready to hatch. To make it easier on her and you I would do this at dark and take 1 egg at a time out from under her. She should be less likely to go completely ballistic if you candle 1 egg at a time then if you try to take them all at once. Or you could just go on faith and trust in your boy and your girls ability and wait to be surprised. I will honestly be shocked if all are infertile.

Now. As I understand things (Bob will probably know more) the person who contracted Covid is most infectious in the first two to three days if they are fully vaccinated.
The unvaccintated can remain infectious for a couple of weeks.
She's still testing negative as are the rest of us so we escaped this time.
Excellent. I'm so glad you and the household are in the clear. 👍

Final Autopsy Results are In

The cause of death has not changed. Her brain came out through the hole in her skull. However there was a secondary condition.

She had Marek's disease.

Her liver, lung, nerves, proventriculus (glandular stomach), ventriculus (gizzard), duodenum (small intestine), pancreas, ceca (intestinal sacs or ducts), and brain were all involved.

She would not have survived much longer even without the brain issue. 😢

She was NOT vaccinated. Neither was Sylvie. I can only assume that Sylvie had Marek's disease as well.

The rest of the tribe outside Lilly has all been vaccinated. Lilly may have been vaccinated, I just have no idea.

I have attached the document which they provided to me from The Pennsylvania State University regarding Marek’s disease. There is some helpful information included in it.

The Marek's may have been here all along or they may have brought it with them. I have no way of knowing. It is here now and will likely always be here.

@CrazyChookChookLady I know that Ned and Lucky were never vaccinated. I am guessing that they do not have Marek's as they successfully made it to adulthood but I feel you should know. I know it is too late to do anything about it. I'm terribly sorry if it shows up in your tribe. 😔

I feel that this ends any thought of me having broodies hatch as well. There is no way I could vaccinate the chicks without them being exposed to the virus during their sensitive period post vaccine as their mom could easily be a carrier. 😢
☹️

If I had known I only had 1 hen a month and a half ago I could easily have picked out 2 hens or more. Several of the semi local silkie breeders were thinning out their grow out pens and had some very nice pullets of all colors for sale. I went back and checked those adds and even messaged a few who had not updated them and all are gone. There are a few cockerels left but no pullets. I will keep a check on 2 of their pages because before they set up their spring breeding pens they will make their final selections and I might can get a pullet then if I still have not found one.
