Blueberry laid her first egg this morning. She's living up to her and Raven's nickname of the "Double Trouble" girls. Instead of joining in on the fight over the porch box with Raven, she chose to lay in the hay stack. That normally would not be a bad thing, Creamy lays there, but Blueberry took it to a whole new level. The hay is stacked 5 bales high and instead of laying on a lower bale like creamy does she laid on top and 2/3 of the way back of the stack. That meant climbing and about breaking my neck to get the egg. You know, I think I would prefer if she joined in on the porch box fight with Raven, it's safer for me.
She laid on a hill. :) bless her

There is also someone else I can blame this morning for Blueberry's chosen nest spot, the only boy she will let near her Bubba. She hates Basil and kicks his butt when he comes near her. Branch also does not attempt to entice her as she just growls at him when he looks her way. She has been attached to Bubba's hip for the past week and he has made several different nests in the hay pile with her supervising. After she laid her egg this morning he was still guarding and talking to her as she dust bathed. Here are the two love birds.

Oh she looks just like my whiskers 😁

Thanks for asking. He’s feeling slightly better, but his tonsils are still huge with white hunk all over them. Strep culture came back negative, which is perplexing.

LOVELY🤗
Is she a barred rock, lovely colour. I am sure she will be missed.

Then Whiskers is a pretty hen. Blueberry is my Black Copper Marans x Easter Egger x Wyandotte cross but she looks like a full Blue Copper Marans. Raven is the same cross but is jet black and didn't get the feathered feet from her daddy. I love my pure Marans but the girls are so broody that I'm hoping the crosses are not the same. Another cross I'll add to my flock this year will be the Marans x Cochins crosses. Of course if I don't want broodiness it is probably the last cross I want to do but I'm a gluten for punishment.

As far as Whiskers is concerned she is a barnyard mix, but the woman who sold my niece the eggs said there were Easter Eggers and Marans.

Whiskers lays lovely olive/blue eggs. Her sister who doesn't have the red head feathers lays more blue-ish eggs, and Buttercup who is white with black and caramel splashes of feathers lays blue eggs like a Robin.

Yee gads I hope none of them gets broody, my Silkies are bad enough!!!
