Reshuffling Begins? Is that an Egg I see coming?

I have always thought, wanted, hoped, that these two would be friends. Is this a sign that maybe they will begin hanging out together? Sydney was supposed to be Hattie sized and shaped.

It surely looks like Sydney is trying on the new nest box for size. Her comb and wattles have reddened appreciably in the past week. It is awful early but could she be getting ready to lay? She has laid in the Cluckle Hut before while it was under construction.

I think she’s trying it out. Is she also the one chatting? Most of my birds get more chatty when they’re laying hormones return.

Can you send her to a 'doggy daycare'? We have a couple here and owners rave their pups become totally different dogs!

Have you thought of training her to be a chicken sentry? She already has the breeding for herding, bet she would be awesome overseeing your flock.
It has for sure crossed my mind. She’s almost five, so I’m not sure if she could still be trained for that? She is super smart and eager to please, so… maybe. She currently shows zero interest in che chickens except if she wants me to let them out (and she knows that means both of us will stay out there) or if a sick one is inside the house, she’ll give it a gentle wag and a sniff. Otherwise, she is completely focused on the ball and/or frisbee… excessively so.

Also, our yard is not fenced, so I’d rather not leave her out unsupervised. Also, she wouldn't stand a chance against the larger predators (mountain lion, wild boar, coyote pack) and some of the medium-smaller ones (raccoon, singke coyote, bobcat, fox) I wouldn't want her tangling with, either. I’ll keep it in mind, though. Thanks!

I hate when the air temp matches my body temp. I'm having an extremely hard time dealing with the heat this year. I get overheated at completely random times. I get so hot I'll sweat from head to toe, I become very short of breath, and I become so irritated I can't even stand the feel of my own skin.
Another BFTP:

Ummm..hate to tell ya, but it sounds like menopause to me...(don't know how old you are, just sayin', though)

Just saw it go to -19C 😁.

My water jugs for the chickens was frozen in the barn this morning. I told them to eat their porridge fast before it froze also!

I am new to winter chickens I guess I will need to get one of those heated waterers.

How does everyone deal with not having eggs freeze?
I am also in Canada, it's -28C here this morning. I am lucky because my husband is retired and so he checks for eggs.
Until recently no one was laying, but Louise gifted us with an egg on Boxing Day and Clara joined in yesterday, so I now have two laying.
I have got a camera installed in my coop which helps to keep track of whether someone is occupying a nestbox.
The egg Louise laid froze because we were not expecting her to start laying again so soon. I should have been more on the ball because she had started squatting again. I cooked up that first frozen and cracked egg once it had melted and fed it back to the hens. They approved of that warm addition to their breakfast!
