Right. -40 is -40 on both scales. I've experienced -35F. Once you hit -anything F (@ -18C), it all starts feeling the same. Only question is how quickly frostbite can set in. Had around a foot (30cm) of snow (powder) get dumped over the last week (most in the last couple of days). Birds don't want to leave the coop, temps in single digits +/-0F. Been "plowing" tracks with my boots for the critters to get around with. The cat is already using those. Last night, temps were up to @15F (-10C). This morning, thermometer is reading 39F. ??? How?

That is surely cold. It's 27° F here right now. Several inches of fluffy white stuff arrived overnight.

I put a black dot on them last time to know avail.

Did you tell your chicken sitters about the dot? Maybe it's all too much for them to remember in the frenzy of chicken - tending? (kidding!)

Coop Swap

Yesterday the hens decided to play coop swap. Phyllis took the big coop and Sydney and Hattie to the Cluckle hut. Lilly owned the porch all day and Aurora spent her time staring out the door.

Snow Bound

With today's snow everyone has gathered into the main coop. For and water there so no need to go out for certain.

Changes in Color

Lilly is finally starting to wrap up her molt and I am seeing more changes than usual in her coloring. The gold that was a little bit around the front of her neck has now migrated down to her shoulders.

I am also starting to see some golden feather stems as well. Circled in the picture below.

I see differences in almost every hen after their molt. I find it interesting how they change a little each year.

Hello Fluffy Butt peeps. I have been quite sick the last few days and barely able to drag myself out of bed to care for the critters.
Think I am maybe turning the corner now. Just dropping in to say big news. Maggie has decided to start roosting again.
I missed it all because of being out of it but there she is this morning between Diana and Dotty on the big roost.
I am happy about that.
Minnie is still roosting alone but she is perky and laying eggs so I can’t put that down to sickness. Just bloody mindedness!
