I've been banging on about Moon and Treacle a bit. The whole business I find not just fascinating but also rather endearing. The two odd ones teaming up.
They both came to the house this morning. Eventually Moon got in the nest box. Treacle really needs to learn that in order to entice the hen into the nest box, he has to stand in it or on it. Messing about on the floor underneath just doesn't work.:D
Moon was in there a long time; a couple of hours at least. I kept checking she hadn't dozed off.
Here she is laying her egg.

That's amazing. Until now I didn't really know that hens stand up to lay an egg.

More Family Dinner

It went so well I brought them together again later in the day with some corn.

The funniest thing happened. Phyllis was pecking away at the corn on the ground and walked right under Aurora. You should have seen Aurora's reaction when those head feathers started tickling her underside.

I so wish I hand been videoing instead of taking still shots. See how Phyllis disappeared under her.

No One Seriously Injured

I watched on the camera this morning as everyone woke up. There were about 10 minutes between everyone moving around and the coop door opening. Phyllis had to be pretty quick for those 10 minutes.

Aurora started it by chasing her off the roost. The downside to the new lower roost, they can all peck at hens below them without getting down.

So poor Phyllis with no vision of what is above her had to find a safe space. She eventually did.

The door then opened and she scooted out. The Bigs went out behind her.

Sansa and Sydney hopped down and found the Mirror.

I leave it to @MaryJanet caption the conversation for us all. ;)

So Farmer Bob heads out to release them into the yard.

I find Phyllis treed.

The Bigs are all standing at the entrance to the prefab coop and Phyllis is up on the outside roost in the coop. So I opened the big run door and let them all out.

The Bigs took off. Phyllis came out a few minutes later and came to stand next to me. I walked her over to the side door and opened it. She called to Sydney and Sansa and they emerged from the Big Coop to join her outside.

The big change for tonight is going to be Phyllis on the high roost, either alone or with her prefab roosting buddy Sydney. Sansa is going on the main roost. I have a sneaky suspicion the Sansa may have knocked her off the high roost last night.

No pullets were harmed in the events outlined above.

Captioning the mirror photo is harder than it looks because I'm sure everyone's imagination is better than anything I can think up, however...

Sydney looks in the mirror and says, "Hello! You there. What's your name?"

Waiting. Bafflement.

Sansa coughs loudly and says "I say, smashing plumage you've got there! How do you do? I'm Sansa."

Waiting. They look at each other, puzzled.

Sydney says, "Simply marvellous morning! Wouldn't you agree?"

They look at each and mumble, "How rude."

"Did you notice them mimicking us?"

"They really are the limit."

"Who do they think they are?"

"Come on, let's go."

"Let's tell Phyllis and Hattie."

"Good idea."

I watched an egg fall out of Chickie’s bum one time when she laid out in the open. And if I peek into a nesting box and they’re standing, I remove myself quickly as I know an egg is imminent.

You do not disappoint! I love it.

Tonight's Roosting

Lots of happenings tonight. Let's start with the roosting.

Phyllis and Sydney on the high roost, Sansa down on main roost. Sansa immediately jumped down. I left her to it. Here is the video of her finally finding a spot to sleep.

There was some vicious pecking going on!
