Tonight's Roosting

Lots of happenings tonight. Let's start with the roosting.

Phyllis and Sydney on the high roost, Sansa down on main roost. Sansa immediately jumped down. I left her to it. Here is the video of her finally finding a spot to sleep.

Poor Sansa.

Sidles up to Hattie

Hattie: Geroff! Geroff! Geroff!

Moves away, closer to Aurora

Aurora: Geroff! Geroff! Geroff!

and so on and so forth.

I thought she'd finally found a good spot directly behind Aurora where she couldn't be seen. Then she ruined it by bumping Aurora's tail. Poor baby :hugs

@Aussie-Chookmum Lavender looks like she is pretty much plucked & ready for the oven. There is a storm of feathers in the pen but I can see lots of new ones spiking through so I am hopeful it won't be as bad as it looks right now.
Poor Lavender.

I'd be interested in seeing her moult though.

Edwina's moult is all underneath her top feathers. I couldn't see where they were all coming from until she fluffed up.

I find moulting an interesting and complicated business. None of my girls have been completely naked yet. Though there have been some pretty big naked patches they always seem to keep enough to keep warm.

Most of her bum feathers have gone, a lot of neck feathers, large patches on her chest & body but she seems to have kept a lot of her wing feathers which is hiding the worst of it. I'll try & get you some pics in the morning.

Yay Chickie! :ya

I really hope she comes good for you Loz and has many more years of companionship with you.

Me too ACM, but I honestly don’t know how long I’ll have her. She possibly has chronic inflammation of her reproductive organs, which may continue to flare up. I will have to just wait and see. She’s got another week of pills and then I’ll have to observe her carefully. She’s such a sweet, cruisey little thing, she deserves a good long life. She’s already lived twice as long as she would have if I hadn’t rescued her from the battery farm, so I guess that’s a bonus.

Absolutely ditto here @Shadrach. Thanks for the positive reinforcement! :p

You took the words right out of my keyboard Lozzy. Usually Ribh says just what I want to say. We must be reading each others minds!

My very good friend the Frizzle breeder, when I expressed worry that I’d annoyed her with so many chook questions, once said to me: “The problem is working out how to get me to shut up about chickens!” I now know where she is coming from! :lau
