Something I Never Thought I would See!

Betty flew into the coop door today at roosting time. I have video from both inside and outside the coop. You need to watch closely because it happens very fast. Here is where to watch for the impact with each video.

Quite possibly the craziest chicken related thing I have ever seen.

WHAT is this? Rocks-Anne was just now attempting to lay an egg. This was the result. She’s an older lady though. It does have a full hard shell. But kinda small! :idunnoView attachment 2978045
I had one like that the other day, I figured out Buttercup laid it, but then she laid a normal one today....

I can't win. Today I had a 'genius idea' which was to clear out the hospital ward and put the oil filled radiator in it where it would be right behind where the Roadrunners roost so they could toast their butts (one fluffy, the other naked) while they slept.
So I tidied, reorganized, located a safe extension cord, swept up the pine shavings, moved the radiator, tested it worked, relocated the temperature sensor. And what happens? The Roadrunners have decided to roost elsewhere. They are together so I think I am going to leave well alone. It goes down to 9F tonight which is a couple of degrees warmer than yesterday.
You could move them now that it is dark.

This is very interesting to me. You have 2, @RoyalChick has 1. I have never heard of any chicken molting in January before. Never. Something is going on but I can't figure what would cause this! 🤔
I got one too. Pear had been dropping feathers slowly, growing in new ones, then we got the big cold and she dropped half her body feathers. She's also more inclined to range farther than the rest. Hunting up choice food? Pellets in the coop: all flock, 20% protein. scratch with extra goodies like sunflower seeds outside. I have a turnip growing in a pot in the house. They're getting the leaves about 1/week. (Turnip sprouted in the fridge, so planted it)
