My two broody silkies are lovingly sharing that golf ball still haha. Wonder what the chick will look like? 😆

Where are you located to get snow through mid March? I too am guaranteed snow, through mid April, and have seen snow on the ground in May, and wet snow in June 😲😲😲
I have to say you live in a place with terrible weather if it's snowing in June.

Porch Cam

Porch can is up and running. As @ChicoryBlue said, zip tie and a board. Here is the fix. I had to do holes in the base and zip tie it to the board.

I then flipped on the camera and recorded Betty search for an alternate roost so she doesn't have to sleep with Phyllis. She gets in some serious exercise!

I just love the view from this camera. I think this was way overdue.
There’s a lot of activity on Betty’s part for sure!

The Tribe is set Free

it was warmer this afternoon and I had to rig up the mount for the Porch Cam so I decided to see if the big girls wanted out. I opened the side door and Sydney was out like a shot. She made it all the way to the deck. Here she is looking at Aurora and Hattie on the porch. Those 2 never came out.

I threw Sydney some sunflower seeds over at the top of the pool. Well that was enough for Lilly. She came out and enjoyed some seeds.

Lilly and Sydney were not out long. So when I went in the big run to install the camera I left the door open. I figured Phyllis might want to explore. What I forgot to do was close side door to the big coop.

It wasn't Phyllis that went out, it was Betty.

And she had 1 thing on her mind.

I knew it as soon as she got out.

She was in front of me and there was no way I could get in front of her. The faster I went, the faster she went.

And she was headed for only 1 place

The side door to the big coop.

She wanted to meet those big chickens in person.

My quarantine was about to be over.

As I rounded the porch I saw that Lilly was standing in the doorway. Briefly I thought, "That will stop her. Lilly is not letting any strange chicken have a free pass".

Well nothing was stopping Betty. She walked right in.

Lilly was stunned.

BY Bob was stunned.

Fortunately I got there just in time to keep them from making contact. I was able to keep them separate with my arm, shoo Betty back out and close the door.

After being denied entry to the big coop Betty hung around for a while and then decided it was time to go back in the run. She has clear purpose when she decides to do something.

Here she is headed back.

After Betty returned to the run, Phyllis emerged. Phyllis even found some grass. Here are some pictures of her.

I think Betty will integrate just fine! Great story, video, and photos!

Well, shoot. I popped on to catch up this morning and you guys are too busy! 🤣
Lots going on trying to find a place thst will allow the dog snd chickens. Went to see something promising yesterday! We’d have to pay $700 more in rent, but that’s doable, especially if I stop paying a house cleaner. We’d either have to have a major purge, or else put stuff in storage. We’ll probably purge, as paying to store stuff we haven’t used in ages doesn’t make sense.
I must have missed a post micstrachan, I didn't realize you were moving.

I hope it all goes smoothly.

Sounds like you will have to Konmari all your stuff. It will be so satisfying when the extra clutter is gone. I Konmaried my kitchen when we had it renovated and it is such a pleasure to open a cupboard and have nothing fall out! Now to do the rest of the house....

It is time for some Corona appreciation. She is 5 1/2 months old now and I am loving everything about this girl. My 1 itty bitty complaint is that she has clean legs, but I can fix that with her babies. It has taken 2 generations but she is the closest hen I have to having full complete copper hackle markings. My plans with this girl is once she starts laying and her eggs are up to size she is being paired up with Bubba. They both have the dark copper coloring, and he has the better feathering on his legs and feet. I want a dozen eggs between these 2 to hatch off for myself in hopes of getting a feather footed hen with at least as much hackle markings Corona has if not more. Corona is also showing signs she is going to be as big as grandma Daisy, another reason the ideal pairing will be with my tank of a boy Bubba. Drumstick and Clovers final gift to me was their best daughter.

She's a beautiful girl, nice shape and colours. How is her temperament? I assume she's a sweety if you love her so. ❤️🥰

They really are wonderful looking ladies.

I will join the fan club with my almost-copper-Marans Edwina. (Moulting a bit here)

She doesn't have clean legs though.

I made a little buffet station in the Chicken Palace today. One each for oyster shell, crushed egg shells, and grit.

Early customer feedback seems positive even though nobody has any interest in any of the items on offer.

Honestly, this would have taken one quarter of the time without Dotty’s help.
She is constantly under, on top of, or attacking my feet!

That sounds like a five star experience at the Palace RC.
I toss everything in the one feeder and sprinkle the top with cracked corn to get them interested. No elegance or refinement here. We are all plebs!😂

Now that she has grown up some she is a sweetheart. When she was a young chick she was a spitfire and if one went on attitude alone you would have swore she was a cockerel. But then, being the only girl with 7 brothers she had to be tough. Every night she waits for me to carry her and put her on the roost. She can get up by herself, but why should she when she knows I'll pack her and give her nightly cuddles. All of my Marans hens have lovely personalities.
