Sad update. Egg 2 that was pipped did not make it. I'm also now very worried about egg 3. I went ahead and candled it this morning and it looks different then when it went in for lockdown. No movement and half the egg is now clear.
That's not good. Any chance you can find another chick somewhere for the one that has hatched? That way it has a companion.

Ok I have to get cracking here and do chores, and shovel snow again.... Ugh so done with snow.... Need hay today, and go to the grocery store, hopefully no 'traffic' this weekend, also need to see if I can get my barn hot water tank finished off - only started this 6 weeks ago!!! Can't wait to get hot water in the barn finally 🤗🤗

Maybe let chickies out for a bit if it warms up some.....🐔 Truly needs her mane untangled. 🐎

Work is seriously infringing on my quality time spent with my horse and chickies!

My mum sprayed him with the hose and he leaves her alone now.

I was just worried about him tripping me and falling and hurting myself (not to mention tiny raptors pecking out my eyes 😂).

I also don't want him or the others hurt....
He needs to be taught, just like a puppy does. With no other rooster to teach him the ways of your tribe he is making this up as he goes. Shadrach has posted an article on how to reach an accommodation with your rooster. If you train him, he will teach the next generation. If you don't, you are asking any rooster to randomly figure out what you want while it is trying to figure out all the hens as well. That's a lot to put on Pangoo.

Does anyone have Shadrach's article linked? I do not.

Yes have been surfing net on this, I am going to ask my Vet says n Monday when I bring Henny Penny in to see about her mutant curly nails.

Might get the other two little turnips done also, just have them as pets.

I got the first couple as pets anyways! Heck I have 4 useless hay burners sitting out there costing me a fortune! Might as well add chickens to the mix 🐔🐔🐎🐎
I don't know this for a fact...it is just a supposition based on change in behavior with bovines....but you may find that if you caponize them, they no longer act like a real rooster/flock protector. I'm not sure about this, though as yours have already reached sexual maturity,,,caponizing is usually done young.

Just something more to 'chew on' when contemplating this.

OMG noooooo!

I have 14 now! This time last year I didn't even think about chickens, other than telling my niece 'no I am not bringing you hens to my barn!'.

Then I decided in April a couple silkie pets would be fun.... Next thing I knew I had 10, and then my one silkie pullet went broody, so I shoved 4 eggs under her and she successfully hatched them, and now I have 14!!!

It all started so innocently 🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐎🐎🐎🐎 🐈
It always does......(start innocently, that is).......;)

Look at me....8 to 90 in no time!!! So.....you better get crackin', 10 to 14...that's the sslllloooowwwww way.:lau:lau

Time to lay

Betty needs to lay an egg. She is starting that frantic search for a safe place to do so. It starts in the run.

Continues into the main coop.

Too much activity in the coop. She really should just use the nest boxes in the Cluckle Hut. No one will trouble her there.

I say this all the time. Dogs are the worst. Way worse than cats who have the bad reputation as killers for fun. I have just not seen that in cats like you see it in dogs.
I whole heartedly agree! I suspect it is 2 thiings: 1) cats will kill song birds by people's feeders, so it is visible/obvious, and 2) Cats will play with their food. My cat would catch a chipmunk and would take it to what I called her 'racquet ball court.' A wooden box next to the house (about 12-16 inches between wooden box side & house ) She would throw it up high against the wall and watch it ping-pong down between the 2 'walls'...when she was done playing, she would bite the head...and leave the rest on the door step for us. (what a lovely gift!)

She would come back and eat what was left if I didn't 'remove' her offering.

Sorry the pic is so dark...it's another 'forgot to turn off the game cam when I take care of the chookies' one.

Ok Fluffy Butt peeps, I'm in trouble now. I have a lone chick. The 3rd egg looks like it quit around day 17 or 18. I've already called Tractor Supply and Rural king. Neither one has chicks right now. Tractor Supply will get theirs in next Thursday. There was one more local feed store that used to carry chicks so I called them. They no longer carry chicks, they claimed they could not compete with Tractor Supply and Rural king. I've got it in the brooder, it ate and drink a little but it needs a friend now.
