Damn. I shouldn't have mentioned it at all 🤦‍♀️

The makeup industry (except where it serves the interests of dramatic productions) emphasises physical beauty and it fosters vanity. It drives us to be seduced by what we see of someone instead of that someone's character. It has disempowered women for decades, taking money from women but not men until recently.

These effects alienate people from self-esteem.

I opt out 100%.

I started moisturising when my doctor told me to, but other than this, I flatly refuse to participate in a market that oppresses others.

Good for you! :thumbsup I just generally can't be bothered. ;)

Phew! Everyone found a spot to roost. Only Ester ended up in s spot that seems a little lost. Cashew went back to her favorite corner on the lower level, but I think that’s because I put the towels back on. They like the towels. The roosts made from branches are slippery. I think I’ll eventually go to 2x4’s flat side up everywhere, eventually. I *do* realize at least half of you are on the metric system, but I speak in inches. Sorry!

Do they not have a roost? Our do they just chose to pile together?

I have pre-fabs and the roosts are pretty useless. Too thin, not attached and too low. I don't think there is enough room to flap their wings to get up there. I thought it was initially that my ex-battery hens must have slept in their nesting boxes (and that may have been the case) but my pullets, who I'm assuming roosted, chose to sleep on the ground. I'm betting it's because they couldn't actually reach the roost (plus it wasn't fixed and was too narrow).

That could totally be true. I had to modify my prefab considerably to make it work.

Eggs from the last two days. Ester has always laid light, light pinkish beige eggs. They’ve been fading and are almost as white as Dorothy’s now. Should I be worried?

As chickens age frquently their eggs get lighter in color. It could be normal. How old is she?

Maturity

Based upon comb color and physical size of the New Girls I figured they were not quite mature. Probably several weeks to go. I mean look at Sydney's comb. It's not exactly red and she is still smaller than Lilly.

This is despite the fact that she is nearly 25 weeks old.

Yesterday, Sansa squatted for me. A sure sign she is getting older. (They are the same age). No one had inspected nesting sites that I have seen. I had no heads up so what happened this morning shocked me.

What happened when Farmer Bob let them out at 0 dark thirty this morning? Only 5 hens emerged to free range.

Sydney was missing.

A search immediately ensued. Let ne zoom out on the above photo.

So thought, OK, she's getting warmed up. I need to get the prefab out of the run today anyway. Isn't that cute. So I let her be and started catching up on all of the posts here from overnight.

While I was still doing that, you all were very busy last night, I hear the escort call.

I am still thinking how cute. She is practicing.

It was no practice! :eek::th

I actually took a photo of her nest assuming it was empty. It was only when I looked at the photo that I realized she had laid a tiny egg.

I am stunned! 🤯

They grow up so fast! 😢

But woohoo! More eggs! :wee:celebrate:woot
Wow! Go Sydney! So cute!
