That may be, but I'm assuming their genetics (or their lineage) are(is) different than yours? If so, and they don't have serious genetic issues, it would just add more genetic diversity to your flock. So, kinda a win-wiin. Eggs for the broody & a bit more genetic diversity???
That was the general plan, a little bit of those lines wouldn’t hurt… even as inbred as they are going, but my Barnvelders are heavier bodied, and I prefer that. Also cleaner lines on my lineages lacing. The Barnvelder pattern seems pretty dominant genetically. Now if I can get rid of most of the cockerels from that other lineage, a little crossing with say Dean or Sammy certainly wouldn’t hurt, and would continue to produce more olive eggers. (Sorry @BY Bob I swear we aren’t trying to rub it in, and pink is even better than blues, IMO. Tiny lays some really pink ones when I supplement her calcium with berry tums BTW) Of my new layers, I’ve got at least 3 or four greens so that a positive.

I don’t wish anything on anyone that they don’t want. But the track record doesn’t look promising. :hugs
Your right, the track record is terrible. Even when I got my original 6 Marans, 4 boys 2 girls. I want to know why the world thinks I need so many boys? I love them, but I really cannot keep every single boy that comes along. I hear of people complaining they have too many hens and cannot get a boy. Can I please have that problem this year...please.

If they lay blue, any that hatch out should lay green/olive crossed with your Marans.
If they are pure Ameraucanas there should be about a 50/50 chance of green or brown in the offspring, they don’t have a dominant blue gene like a CCL. If they are EE though that would reduce the chances of a green in the offspring to something like 25% when crossed to a Marans. Interestingly my MaransxAmeraucana boy throws darker green laying offspring than my pure Marans crossed to the Sapphires (LHxCCL) and despite the dominant blue gene from the CCL grandparent, I still get about 50/50 green/tan in crossing the hybrids, but they are all gorgeous

You will get blue eggs and lots of cockerels :old:eek:

And I should add I sometime wonder about crossing Sammy to one of his Hatchmates… it’s not really incest, maybe. Who knows how many different genetics his breeder had in the pen
