Just hilarious. You may need to ask for forgiveness from your youngest daughter but it is so perfect. Can Phyllis do all those jumping up and down routines? Does she cheer a particular team?
OMG...this, shortly after watching Phyllis flip herself. Now it all makes sense Phyllis the star cheerleader....:bow

she can run, strut, flip...
she can do all the cheering stunts
BUT the split(s)
Pom poms raised
cheering on the boy(s)
later, on the sidelines
sly glances, looking coy

While I have time and it is on my mind I thought I would clarify and explain a little bit about mom and Branch's complicated relationship. Part of the issue is mom never believed me when I told her I was keeping some of the silkies so she ignored them and never interacted with them as chicks. I think I finally got it through her head a few were staying when they were about 4 months old. When she did start interacting with them she took a liking to Lil Bit and Poppy and would hold and cuddle them. She never attempted to handle Branch until the end of October when I was sick with the Rhinovirus which kicked my butt worse then covid. It was during that time that Branch was 5 months old and had his new hormones raging. It was also smack in the middle of his brief infatuation with my hand. I was unable to get out of bed let alone attend to the chickens and instead of having Rosie put everyone up she thought she would help. She went to pick up Branch to put him on the roost and he went for her hand and bit her and while he did not draw blood he did leave a red mark. She was ready to get rid of him that night and I've had a fight on my hands with her ever since. When he turned his attentions to the hens, most of them did not like him and he would chase them which reaffirmed in her mind he was a bad boy. He now has hens that accept him, Chiquita and about half of the cochins and he has calmed down tremendously and is finally gentle. Branch does have a big personality, and will not back down from a challenge. He could easily develop a Napoleon complex and be a terror but with careful management he has not. He truly loves all people but her, even small children. My neighbors 4 year old comes and visits and will sit down in the grass and he'll climb in her lap and fall asleep like he does me. Branch has not bit mom or anyone since that one incident, he has never offered to attack or flog her. He just sees her come out and will march right up to her and puff out his chest and crow his head off at her for about 10 minutes to try to get a reaction. Their relationship has improved some since I've got her more engaged with him and having her handle and hold him more. Will they ever be best friends....probably not. At least she does not want to wring his neck or get rid of him anymore.

A week and a half ago Mrs. Howell died during the night, leaving Maryanne all alone. After serious consideration, we decided that due to current circumstances it would be best to rehome Maryanne rather than bring in some flock mates. I don't know why I was surprised, but it was much harder to deal with that than with the deaths of our other two.

Today is the first day that Maryanne has been let out of her safety cage at her new home, about a 2.5 hour drive from us. She's keeping her distance, but it looks like things are going well. She joins a flock of six (she makes it seven)

This is Maryanne and DW saying their goodbyes.

While we are now empty nesters, I don't think we are forever done with chickens, but I also can't imagine we will find any that will be as affectionate with us as these have been. We truly miss them already.
:hugs:hugsAlways hard, isn't it, they leave a space in your heart that just can't be filled.
@rural mouse is right...take your time...and enjoy the new personalities if/when you do jump back in.

What is BFTP short for?
"Blast From The Past" i.e. a response to a very old post. I'm slowly working through the posts that happened long before I joined this thread. I use it just as a 'heads-up' so everyone doesn't think they missed a recent post. I try not to reply to very many old posts, but some I just can't help myself!

I am sorry that you have had to say goodbye to your ladies. I imagine it is a little lonely at times. I cannot imagine not having mine. :hugs :hugs :hugs

I hope you continue to check in here but truly understand if it does not feel right. I have enjoyed having you as a part of the tribe.
