I used to have a terrible Japanese Beetle problem. Every morning I would go out and drown them in a bucket of soapy water. Now suddenly I don't have any. I have been Japanese Beetle free for the last 3 years I think. Shame in a way because those juicy grubs would be a real treat for the chickens.
I'm sure that they are a big reason why you don't have any....they get the few that pupate...or the juicy grub stage. Maybe not a smorgasborg, they have to now settle for japanese beetle appetizers!

She is lovely and that is a great video of her. But I am sorry to say Maggie would put her to shame on the noise front. Similar volume I would say, but Maggie doesn't restrict herself to egg time. She will go on like that if she sees a squirrel, or if she hears me, or if a car comes in to the driveway, or sometimes, just 'because' and it goes on for forever!
Personally I have a soft spot for these vocal chickens.
:love

It is girls like her that make me want to roll on the floor laughing when a non chicken person tries to tell me that roosters are loud and hens are quiet. I'm glad you have a maggie because a word of warning. I have found my Marans and Marans mixes to be talkers. More importantly, they are complainers and voice their opinion loudly and freely.
I'll try to get the Buckeyes on my phone. It isn't usually an escort song. They kind of yell, basically. It's a long, long series of calls, loud, urgent, with mounting intensity in the series. Sometimes the ending call is a high-pitched scream. Then it starts again. Is this the oxytocin or something? The egg rotating for delivery? Yesterday two of them were going at it, maybe working out who would use the nest box first (it is big enough for two but they rarely share). As long as they are okay I'm fine with it, and I do love how talkative they are, but sometimes I wonder if they are feeling pain. It must be an intense process!

We get these evil Japanese Beetles that eat everything in sight. They r so thick on the fruit trees I put a pail under a branch shake the limb and collect them for the chickies 😊. It hilarious watching them eat them.
You can get a nematode treatment that you apply to the ground and water in during the summer, it’s natural, and kills them in the larval stage (Father worked for BC Housing in the landscaping department for 30+ years… I used to get the best retired industrial lawnmowers etc)

As I no longer have feline photo options available I give you nautical cat with horns

Yes I need to get some this year, I missed my window of opportunity last summer.... Due to crazy weather.

This year will have to just apply and hope for the best.

(I need a new lawn tractor 😉).
