Maybe @CrazyChookChookLady would have a broody around. 🤔
I will say this once, I'm disappointed in you. You knew this trip was coming so you had plenty of time to line up exporting eggs from a breeder of the Italian Leghorns. Incubators could have been found and ready. If I ever get a opportunity to go to France, you can bet I will do my best to have everything ready and in hand to import some Marans eggs. They were developed in France and some of the best looking Marans are found in France. They are not referred to as French Copper Marans for nothing.

*I am joking just a bit on the disappointed part*

Farewell for Now

The time has come for me to step away for a bit. No I am not leaving permanently. The day has finally arrived and we are heading to Italy to marry my youngest off. I will be gone for 2 weeks and I will not be checking in on BYC. I will be in Italy for crying out loud. There will be no time for socializing about chickens.

I considered doing what @GrandmaDeKorte has done and freezing the thread thereby permitting no posts until my return. After all I am liable to be a 1,00 pages behind on my own thread when I get back. However, when I thought about what a wonderful hangout this is for everybody I decided to let you all roll without me.

I do need you to promise me you will all do some very particular things while I am gone.
  1. Maintain the Holidays
    1. Fluffy Butt Friday
    2. Pony Sunday
    3. Mugs Monday
    4. 2fer Tuesday
    5. Thirsty Thursday
  2. Keep on topic. For those that don't know, the topic is chickens. If you get off topic be sure to pay your tax. If someone doesn't pay their tax you are all empowered to call that person out.
  3. Be Kind to Each Other. This is friendly place. Let's keep it that way. No nastiness, No "stalker-like" behavior. Silliness is OK. If a joke doesn't land, try to remember it was a bad attempt a humor and likely not meant to be mean.
  4. Be Understanding and Supportive of each other. Remember, it is quite common for someone to be struggling with a chicken problem. We help each other here.
  5. Be Welcoming to Newcomers. We were all newcomers at one time. Let them know this is a safe place and teach them the holidays.
I feel like I am leaving the teenagers alone in the house for the first time. I trust you to not wreck the place.

Most of all I need someone to do something for me. Could someone please keep track of all the important significant events which occur while I am gone. If you could please do that and PM me a summary on the morning of the 4/29 I would greatly appreciate it. My plan is to catch up while commenting in the current time. If I don't know what happened while I was out it might take me weeks to catch up.

Please know that I treasure you all and look forward to coming back to you. I knew that I had to tell you all i would be missing or else someone would call out a search party. You have no idea how much that means to me.

I will share photos when I return but here is one to provide some foreshadowing. This is the venue. It is an old monastery in Amalfi that has been converted to a hotel. The ceremony will be in either the old chapel or cloister depending on weather. The roof of the chapel collapsed hundreds of years ago. The reception will be on a patio looking out to the sea and the island of Capri.

I will still be checking in today but once I board that flight I will be out of touch. If I'm lucky maybe I can see a genuine Italian Leghorn this time while I am over there. :D
I was going to say "have a wonderful time" then I thought, it's his daughter's wedding and it's in Italy, a wonderful time is guaranteed :D

The Amalfi coast offers wonderful walking and views and there's an amazing Egyptian museum if you pop up to Turin :)

I'm looking forward to reading a few choice anecdotes on your return.

Travel safe, friendo :frow

Not even ever 😲😲😲
Hahahaha.

Until that moment, I didn't believe that chickens were capable of killing so viciously!

Last week I caught buttercup pummeling a mouse into oblivion and tried to eat it. I took it away as I was worried it might have eaten mouse bait, even though she caught it outside. Well I thought she would tear my eyes out when I stole that mouse from her!! I gave her some scratch grain as a consolation prize 🤣

Today I watched them try to stalk a little sparrow!!

So nope not kissing them anymore :lau
Chickens are tougher than Davis. He won't kill a mouse. He's a lover not a killer.

Oh no (hugs hugs hugs)
Dont ever feel that way! It's hard to treat fractures in birds. Same as with horses. Almost always it's more humane to euthanize them rather than having them suffer.

My old stallion broke his hip, I tried for three months to heal him, then one day I just couldn't stand seeing him suffer 😢. He was a one in a lifetime horse and I miss him dreadfully.

Anyhow what I am saying is never feel badly or guilty for doing what is best for your feathered friends.
For your loss. :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs

It's just never easy.

I wonder what one would have to do to actually import eggs....

I am sure it can be done just as one would import horses and cattle. In fact I bet importing eggs would likely be easier than livestock....

Mine have ate frogs and toads and were just fine. They have to be because when they murder something, there is no way I can chase them down to retrieve it. I spent 10 minutes yesterday trying to catch one of the babies. She found a cigarette butt and she did not want to give it up. When I finally cornered and caught her and removed it from her beak she kept giving me evil looks.
Rosie used to have a paper towel obsession. Couldn't go anywhere near her with one. If she spotted kne in hand or pocket she would jump up a snatch them and then run.
