Good morning everyone. As soon I drink my 2nd cup of coffee and it kicks in I'm running away for a few hours. Well, not running away really, but me and my neighbor are going out mushroom hunting. I hope we find some Morels, but more importantly it will be just me, another adult and no children or forgive me for saying it grandma for about 3 hours. My dogs are allowed to come to keep a lookout for snakes.
You deserve some time away. Good for you have fun and I hope you find something yummy.

Before I go, I looked out my window and saw this. 2 very contented momma hens.

Not really, the swallows nest in the centre of the aisle....
I tore down the old nests last Fall they were there a few years. And tend to dry up and fall with chicks in them. So I tear them out every few years.

The power line makes a handy place to build ...

I'm soo happy she has recovered. It is amazing how being so young helped her do it so much quicker. She is a fighter like Butter was. Watch out, that determination can one day land her the head hen spot. It did for my Butter.
She is definitely a leader. Her gold feathers are coming in. I think she will be a very pretty young lady.
:love

They are all so adorable, your little black one, and for the life of me I cannot remember her name right now, is growing up like I thought she would. By August, you are going to have a stunning black hen on your hands.
The black one is Bella. I need to post a photo study of her feet which are really lovely.

I am thinking temporary. The avian influenza is killed by higher temperatures so it may only be a few weeks before we are all OK again until the fall.
Lots of people on BYC are containing their chickens in covered runs so the wild birds don’t poop on them.
Could you fix something like corrugated plastic sheets under where the swallows nest - like a poop board for the swallows. Leave it up until the summer and then dispose of it.
Just brainstorming here!

Ya I was thinking that but not sure how To fasten it. I think I should be ok till they start sitting On nests.

I think I will put down some shavings were they roost at Need ght, then clean it Up before I let chickens out. The swallows are outside all day until they nest. And they roost about the time the gals do. I may just put the ladies loo n bed early and the swallows can then roost for the night. Then put out poop boards on the floor under them, clean it up in the morning and let hens out.

Extra work but I think worth It
