After a sip of wild water Minnie decided to stay out with the rest of the tribe. She isn’t as perky as this photo makes her look but she did munch on some little leaves.

That is a wonderful photo though. I just love her there in the high grass. Nice composition and colors.

I think I may have found the secret to reprogramming cult members.
I had diced cabbage and shrimp for Minnie in the hospital ward. She ate a mouthful and was then clear she wanted to go outside. So I gave the rest of the cabbage to the big Princesses and I put the bowl down at the nearest spot which happened to be close to the Hooligans’ headquarters (aka the cardboard box).
Seems like there was interest In the cabbage happenings. They are practically falling out of the box craning their necks down! :lau

So I sprinkled some even closer….

Food, the greatest of the motivators. You just have to find the right food. 🥰

Okay, so ignorant me has asked this a couple of times before, but no one has 'bitten'.

HOW do you 'burn them out' without also damaging the wooden coop? Yes, I know what those propane torches are like, but haven't used one in forever, and then only once. How do you get it hot enough, especially in crevices, without charring the wood? Is it something someone can explain, or do I just need to get a torch and practice on scrap wood myself?
You might chat it a little but you are just surface burning not trying to ignite everything. I will record it the next time I do it.

Thank you.

Influenced by many folks here, I want the natural way: let Inky hatch/raise chicks, but my husband won't let it happen because HE has to be the one raising chicks. He loves chickens to death, but he is not on BYC to learn all about broody raised chicks. But I talk about it a lot so he is starting to listen. I would say that he raises very nice chickens.
I get that. There is something very special about raising chicks yourself but momma hens do so much better.

@featherhead007

Hey how is Jaffar today ? Is he settles down towards you?

Curly and Dorothy got I to a brawl today, I so wanted to break it up but I took bobs suggestion and let them figure it out.

Curly won,!!! And she pinned Dorothy down by the back of her neck. Dorothy is likely 3 times her size! And Curly lost a few feathers but she won!

I am putting it down to spring fever.
It's not the size of the chicken it's the size of the fight in the chicken. They are tough to watch but you did right staying out of it.

Ok, I need you all to hold me to this. The last of the chicks left this evening. They also took Effie and Charlie who in the last 3 days had combs and wattles pop out of nowhere. I still have Lilly, Cricket and Karen who as of right now still seems to be a girl. After Bunnie's eggs hatch no more chicks this season. I normally let one or two broodie's hatch in the late summer to have eggs all winter but with the hooligans reaching laying age in a few weeks time I should not have a shortage. That said, if Chiquita goes broody all bets are off. I've been dying for a broody silkie and Chiquita is broken. Nothing yet from her. I thought silkies were chronic broodies?
I promise to try and remind you but I have no power over you in the end and mums and chicks are a special draw.
