Good to know!Nope, with chickens, it is the hen. Not a scientific source, but I have read this elsewhere, too.

So those are the f eggs? Sounds like swearing to meFake Eggs and Phyllis
My loss of fake eggs continues. This time JD was the culprit. We offered to JD as part of our gratitude that he could take all of the eggs the ladies laid while we were in Italy. He dutifully collected them and left them in bowls on the dining room table for us. The table was covered in eggs. This was one of the bowls.

JD knows I have no coloured egg layers. EVERYONE knows I have no colored egg layers! But he dutifully brought in that Fake green egg, didn't he.
So I bought 6 fake Eggs for Phyllis to set. I just labeled them. Do you think this is obvious enough?

I put the "F" on them for Phyllis".
So far, no one has troubled Phyllis over her setting in nest box 1. They have all politely laid their eggs in nest box 2.

Wow, this is fascinating. I think I would suspect the same in your shoes.I have a serious question for those of you who have multiple boys and let the hens hatch chicks. Do you think the rooster know which chicks are their own offspring? For that matter I wonder if hens know as well if another hen hatches one of her eggs. I started pondering this when Baby was raising her adopted babies. Butter took serious interest in one of the white chicks. At times I felt she was threatening to steal it. I moved Bunny and her 2 chicks out to the coop this afternoon. Branch who has been good with the chicks already this season is obsessed with Twig. He is ignoring the other chick and is constantly tid bitting and trying to feed it outside the pen. I'm going to keep Bunny and the babies separate for a few days. I'm really curious to see how Branch behaves once I let them outside, but I swear he knows that Twig is his baby.
I caught Dorothy and Penelope (her egg mum) snuggled up sunning today.Wow, this is fascinating. I think I would suspect the same in your shoes.
Betty! Not again? Poor hen.AGAIN!
I do not know how it happened but Betty wound up in the pool again yesterday. Here i am getting her out.
This is where I get worried with the Polish. Normally if someone falls in the pool the tribe alarms. I know the call they make and beat feet. Betty must have been off on her own as the Polish are prone to do. With Phyllis setting she is on her own a lot.
There was no alarm. I actually thought I heard a splash and it took a while for it to sink into my head that maybe something or someone fell into the pool.
Well s you can see by the end of the video. It wasn't that long and Betty was already suffering the effects of hypothermia.
So into the house she came.

She enjoyed some TV, warmed up, and back out she went just in time for a big thunderstorm to come through!![]()
How is Minnie doing RC?I have had a day of being yelled at by Maggie and Dotty. I don't know what I did wrong. They should have been happy today because it was wet and muddy and lots of bugs.
That's a great idea. Are they sensitive to the weight of a chicken? That is the concern. I may need to get one of those child alarms for the pool.
