Yes, and had the same thought about how unreasonable it has been. By this time we don't have frost worries (got to 38F here). The Buckeyes are happy in the cooler weather though.
Its the La Nina system, make us cooler. Make me miserable and stiff. But the horses and chickies are happy so I guess I will take it (hahaha not much I can do to change the weather anyways teeheehee).

Weather tax 😊

Apologies everyone. I can tell I will bore you all with pictures. I can’t help it, I am having such a lovely day sitting outside with all the Princesses hanging out with me.

Everyone in one shot and nobody attacking anyone!

But then deciding a nap in the sun would be better for her vitamin D levels.

I've got 3 sitting on eggs now. The heat here is horrendous. We provide water and as much ventilation as possible and pray for mercy.
When it is really hot & I have a broody, I clip a small dish to the nest box (so it doesn't get spilt) and put a few ice cubes in it...while it doesn't make the area 'cooler' it gives them some cool water as it melts...that they don't have to leave the nest for.

I do it morning & as soon as I get home from work...or if a weekend, morning noon and mid-afternoon. If there is water left when I bring new ice, I dump it

It may not be enough to help, but it makes me feel better doing something AND I have seen them take a few sips - that I know they wouldn't have if it wasn't right there in the nest box. (and yes, I put it in the corner, so it isn't next to the eggs, but the hen can still easily reach it. ) Just something small, like a travel condiment container that holds 1-2 ounces will work - holding 1-2 regular sized ice cubes. Again, I realize in 102 degree heat, this isn't much & the ice won't last long...but it is all I got for ya.🤷‍♀️

Yeah, but with chickens I’ve found the overwhelming solution to most medical issues is very quick, and involves no rehabilitation. Unless you’re crazy like me and take in every injured, sick, or stray animal that you can… lol
Well, not all farmers are like that. I've removed a gangrenous foot (from ankle joint down - she brke the lower leg just above toes, but not good blood flow, so splinting didn't work - did for her sis, though) stitched many girls, and now done crop surgery! While all 'treated' haven't survived ( a fox attack victim didn't make it...and in my first year a couple of raccoon victims that SHOULD have been put down I tried to save :(), the rest have made it. I now think carefully about 'axe' or 'needle'. Again, most make it. But I'm kinda like you - somewhere between farm animal and pet despite my numbers. Unfortunately, I still have to work full time to pay the bills....both mine & the 'kids'.

Well, blowups from yesterday and this morning led to grandma going home. We did not take her she called one of her brothers and her nephew. Told them both if they did not come she was calling the police as we were keeping her prisoner. They got here and tried to reason and talk her out of it to no avail. She said if she could not stay by herself she would sell out and go to a nursing home but she hated us and would not stay 1 more minute. Her dr is useless and told us if she would not willingly go to a nursing home she had to be back in the hospital before he would put her in one. Fine, I give it a week before she is back in the hospital or worse. He also said he could not legally stop her from going home and if she called the law he would have to side with her.

I agree. I am sitting outside with my back to it and saw the security cam. I liked the picture because Bella and Bernadette are prancing around underneath the art chickens. And then I saw others.
Here goes:
3 art chickens ringed in blue.
Bella and Bernadette immediately underneath the art chickens and ringed in red.
Lulu ringed in orange.
Roadrunner #1 looking in and ringed in purple.
Roadrunner #2 and Diana hanging around my coffee table and ringed in green.

Yay, I got them all...despite being blurry. Can't focus in on all of them, given they are all different distances from camera! I could tell one of the right most was either Diana or Maggie, because of the reddish......assuming I was correct and it WAS a chicken, not my imagination, lol.

Oh dear. So sad. So stressful. Please go hug a horse, pet a chicken and be kind to yourself, your mother, and Rosie.
:hugs :hugs:hugs
