High Roosting

I built the high roost so Phyllis could get away from others figuring that as a smaller hen that it would be her refuge from all the pecking at night.

Of course, she never used it unless I put her up there.

For a short time Sansa and Sydney had it to themselves. Then Lilly figured out it was cool to be up high and joined them. I thought the roost could only hold three but then Aurora joined them. It looked like quite the squeeze but they jammed in.

Poor Hattie would look and want to go up high but she knew she was too big to make it. In the meantime Phyllis took the roosting spot that everyone used to fight over. Now even Hattie did not want it.

At this point the long roosting bar that runs the length of the coop only held 2 hens.

Since then I believe that Aurora has terrorized Sansa and Sydney enough that they have given up and moved down to the main bar. As they will eventually be similar in size to Hattie, it was probably going to happen any way.

Work was Crazy Today

So much so that I spent almost no time with the ladies today so here is a photo of the greatest hen ever to tie you over.

I still chuckle at that "comb over" every time you post a picture of her. She must have been a lot of fun to have around.

She was the best. I miss her a little almost every day.

She carried that cool vibe with her all the time too. She knew she was cool but not in an obnoxious way.

They feel loss too. When BeeBees died, her sister "Sunshine" was frantic, looking everywhere for her. It was a tough week for our flock, and me. Three weeks ago.
