I will agree on one point, panic never entered the equation. The one thing that gave me chills as I looked back and remembered everything was what if I hadn't thought of the drifting snow while I was checking on them in the storm. To wake up the next day to a coop of passed hens would have been the worst. In fact I'm certain that would have been the end of our journey with chickens.
:hit
Oh gosh, yes! That would have been awful! Smart thinking.. really!

Chickens like Peanut Butter?!

I took an English Muffin with peanut butter out to my chair under the magnolia tree with me yesterday. As soon as I sat down this occurred.

No quarter was given until I shared. I thought they may not like peanut butter. WRONG! They went crazy for it.

My Chooks get the left over PBJ crust that my kids won't eat. They LOVE it!

In the Big Coop

I was right about one thing, Maleficent loves the house. Twice today she bolted in before I could close the door. Each time she went to where I store the mealy worms and tried to get into them.

She will be hanging out inside before long. I just know it.

I’m sorry Bob.. this is where I draw the line :th.... I don’t even like the dogs in the house... even though they are ..... Cats yes... inside only! Chickens ... no! I do not judge you for it though... I think it is sweet! I’m just too afraid of that nasty wet poop :sick

Alpha vs Omega

I was watching the camera in the run this morning and I saw the pecking order at work. Maleficent had been up on the run roost and Aurora on the back of the chair while Lilly scratched around. Lily left and I turned on the video capture to catch a shot of how Maleficent gets down off the roost. Instead I caught Lilly enforcing the pecking order and apparently claiming all the run as her's.

Very interesting! I love watching the flock dynamics.

Last night I was watching my Silkie roo and Blue PLymouth Rock cockerel set boundaries. Thunder (silkie) allowed Breeze (Plymouth Rock) to move about the backyard without issue until Breeze started to head for the Silkie hens. Breeze is more then twice Thunders size, but Thunder still ran him off in no uncertain terms. Much like Lilly did with Maleficent.

She is essentially not allowing them to eat. She can’t keep them from eating, there are two feeders, but for this moment in time she was letting them know that they get to eat at her pleasure. I mean she ran after Maleficent in order to catch her!
