This is my new way to hold them... they really like it.. Mak is one of my skittish gals and I could even hold her like this .. first time ever!! I can hardly touch her usually.. yall should try it... their feet are on the stool between my legs.. and body resting on my legs.. they also like it if you are on a chair and their legs just hang down..

I wish I could hold my girls like this!! :hugs

Guess what brudda Bob :ya... Maggie squatted for me today!!! So you know what that means... we are real close to finding out :fl
She also let me get her and hold her without any fuss or acting scared at all!! Then I scratched her beard feathers for a bit and she sat calmly and closed her eyes :clap:love.... you know how scary they are... I think they are gonna come around and be just as curious as Kelly! Here is a pic of Maggie and Daffy getting close and pecking my shorts! View attachment 1912915

I'm getting nervous for you. You are right the time is coming. Keep working with them. You all will be very close. Beard tickling. I'm going to have to try that.

My 2IC Chickie squats for me at the drop of a hat. She even once stopped in front of me and squatted before I even bent down! :lau Lucy, the boss chook, squats for me if she feels like it. If she doesn't, she runs off in the opposite direction. Charlie usually won't let me get near her during the day; the only time I can touch her is at bed-time, and even then she doesn't particularly like it. The only time she has squatted for me is when I had to lock her and Bessie in the hen-house in the morning as I had to do physio on Bessie. I would lift Charlie out through the roof and she would flap and carry on like she was being murdered. When I put her on the ground, she squatted for about 30 seconds! It was almost like she was thanking me for not murdering her! :gig

My two Isa Browns like to groom me from time to time, they are attracted to certain pairs of trousers over others. Whilst I like it, I don't want them to encourage Charlie to try as she's full-beaked and not gentle!

Close but no Cigar

@Shadrach asked me a while back if my hens roosted in my magnolia tree. At the time I said had seen Maleficent checking it out but no attempts had been made. She tried this morning. Missed the limb by 6 inches. I figured she cleared 4 feet straight up. I suspect that next time she will try from the chair so she has a boost. She flew right over me as I sat in the chair. In fact at first I thought she was headed for my shoulder again and I tried very hard to stay still.

I'm chiming in rather late here, work has been crackers lately.

Mary and Janet rotate sentinel duty and I reckon it's a habit they established when they were a dynamic duo. Janet strenuously supervises roosting - on a few occasions, her supervisory antics have caused her to take a misstep and tumble off the roost! SO embarrassing for her. And these tumbles mean Mary has taken up more status, along with her new feathers and laying. Janet is 2nd bird now.

Sandy can dream, but with her shortened beak, she'll always be third bird.

I pat squatters along the back too! And because mine are none too tame, I take the opportunity to feel their keel and lift their hackles to examine the roots for mites and lice. Only trouble is, Mary doesn't squat so I have no real idea about her keel :idunno
