Has anyone had this... yall know my three Cochin bantams that I got for Nilky to raise..? Well, the black one, Petunia started laying at 18 weeks.. and is a VERY reliable layer until she went broody.. her two sisters, Lil Red and Cutie do not lay eggs ... they are now 28 weeks... does anyone know what’s up wit dat!?
Now, I swear when they were about 20 weeks I got three tiny bantam eggs.. one was obviously Tunie’s and the other two were identical to hers soooooo, I was like.. okay, all are laying now... weeeellll, haven’t had anymore of those bantam eggs except for Tunie’s... and I am CERTAIN of this... so, can some chickens just never lay..? And why lay once but never again :idunno

I LOVE this :love:love:love... being a new chicken keeper.. I do believe this is my new favorite “sound of fall” :love:love:love

It is my favorite sound. I was sitting with them this morning and the only sound was them scratching in the leaves. It was wonderful so I thought I would share. My magnolia dropped half its leaves in the past week and they were loving it.

I have not experienced that although I am getting exactly 0 eggs right now. I give the two molting hens a pass and Mal is coming off being broody but hey, What's up Aurora?!

Did anyone see the article about common mistakes that got emailed?

One the dot points under ‘sick chickens’ is decrease in egg production. How can you tell if they’re sick or just having a break due to moulting/wintertime/summertime? I still feel bad that I noticed that Penny hadn’t laid in over a week, but it was summer and apparently heat stress can make them back off. She was an Isa Brown, so I also thought it might have been that she retired (she was two). She also hid that she was sick very well, the only thing that was different was the eggs. How long is too long when they stop laying? I’m sure Lucy’s gone a week in the winter. Both her and Chickie’s eggs are very fragile now, despite getting calcium-rich breakfast each morning. We now lose a few of them if Charlie sits on them, she’s so heavy. They don’t really like the shell grit; most of it ends up in the bottom of the feeder.
