Cob Webs

It had been so long since I have gotten eggs the are now cob webs in my nesting boxes.

I love your system @Shadrach . It seems ideal for the chooks with benefits for the keeper. I'd like to be able to do that too but I'm in the same boat as @BY Bob.

I like reading about your chickens though. I'm learning such a lot about chicken behavior and physiology from you Shad and everyone here.

My basic aim is to get my eggs from guaranteed happy chickens. Observing and interacting with them happens to be a side benefit!

There is a price to pay with the system I have. I lose chickens every year. It's hard on the heart.
We can only do what we think is best and within the constraints of what we have.
I didn't have that many choices when I took over the chicken care here and the system allows me to observe them in something approaching their ancestors living arrangements.

The Cold is Coming, The Cold is Coming!

Tuesday night the low here is expected to be in the 20s (~ -4° C). It will stay that way for several days. I have been very concerned about poor Hattie but looking this morning it seems her butt many finally be Fluffy again.

I am also hoping that roosting remains calm and they sit close to each other. We shall see. Colder air is still to come this winter.

That butt is indeed fluffy again. I hope they cuddle up together, my girls do.

Mine did not wait today. They came into the big coop and were headed for the living room when I cut them off!

Painless Roosting

Second night in a row with no problems. Perhaps the fuss is over.

I also finally went out and got that silly piece of straw off of the camera.

Mine did not wait today. They came into the big coop and were headed for the living room when I cut them off!
