@WhoDatChick posted pictures of her beautiful assortment of colored "Easter" eggs on @Ribh thread. Her picture inspired me to show my amazing assortment of colors now that everyone but Phyllis is laying. Aren't they beautiful!

So does my wife.I like the black-and-white version better.
Very interesting. Since moving into the Chicken Palace (which has so many windows it is essentially a greenhouse) I have noticed that they go to bed earlier when it is very early dusk. I thought they just liked hanging out on the big branch looking out of the window. With regard to roosting behaviour. All that aggressive pecking does not happen when they roost in trees from what I've seen here.
I believe some of it has to do with light levels. When they roost in the trees here it is at the start of dusk. When they roost in the coops it's towards the end of dusk.
Watching them go into the coops. it's quite apparent the the transition from relatively good light to bad light makes them hesitant to venture in. Once it has got dark (bear in mind there is very little light in the coops here) there isn't any of that pecking.
This is partly why the juniors tend to go in as late as possible; they don't get pecked at.
I think they go to bed to look out the window. There is more light up there.Very interesting. Well that definitely fits their behavior. They chow down before dusk and drink a lot too. Then they all march up the ladder to the big branch roost and hang out there looking out of the window and chattering to each other about the days activities. It feels like it is sort of 'family time' just before bed. I hung out with them this evening. It is nice and comforting and the view is nice!I think they go to bed to look out the window. There is more light up there.
