More Magnolia Magic

I spent a lot of time under the magnolia this weekend and the magic continued. Syndey was up with me a lot. She even posed with me once.

Sansa roosted on my leg once. Here she is on the footstool.

Aurora spent time in the chair next to me grooming and resting several times. Everyone was very friendly and interested in hanging out. It was wonderful.

Mystery of the Ceramic Eggs Solved

My brother had them. We went out to get lunch one day and swung by his house to check on them. He handed me this.

His wife discovered they had them when she went to hard boil them for dying. I have not had white eggs since Daisy, the greatest hen ever, passed. Still they take them every time. Now that Phyllis is laying little white eggs I probably need to get another set just to have backups. :gig

Sydney's doing that over-the-shoulder pose again! I love it! :love

Worming is Complete

The wormer came in pills. 1 pill per pound of bird. So I pushed the pill into a mini penne noodle and fed the ladies pasta by hand. It worked great for all the ladies that swallow their pasta whole. That left me with Phyllis and Lilly. Neither swallows whole, they peck their pasta into little pieces.

For Phyllis I tried putting the pills into humus. She picked them out. I went back to cut up mini penne. And managed to fool her with the smaller pieces.

That left Lilly.

I needed to separate her from the flock so that whatever I gave her they could not steal. Phyllis was easy, she walks into the house on her own whenever the door opens. So I thought, let's do the same with Lilly.

So I scooped her up of off the deck and brought her in. She immediately began pacing in front of the door trying to get out.

The only hen I have that doesn't want to be inside. Go figure.

Back forth she placed, looking anxiously outside.

We started with cut up pieces of penne with pills hidden inside. No such luck. Pecked into even smaller pieces, pulls lasting on the carpet.

Back and forth she paced. The others standing at the door looking in at her.

So I cut up some pills and put them in some hamburger for her. Placed the hamburger on the floor for her.

No interest.

Lilly paced back and forth.

I put mealy worms on top of the hamburger. Those caught her eye. YES! She stared eating.

Nope, just the mealy worms.

Still she paced back and forth. The rest of the flock watching her through the door. At this point, I gave up.

Mrs BY Bob stepped in. Mortar and pestle in hand. I picked the pills from the hamburger and a short while later she had a syringe full of crushed pills in water.

Still Lilly paced.

I scooped her up and held her. I opened her beak and Mrs BY Bob slowly injected the mixture into her mouth. Lilly swallowed like a good girl and we were done.

I put her down outside and all the other girls gathered around. I grabbed up the hamburger Lilly would not eat inside (sans pills) and put it down outside with her .

Lilly immediately stated eating it as the whole flock joined in.

Of course.

Maleficent's Spirit

I've decided that it is the spirit of Maleficent that is spreading to the ladies. I only spent a short time with them this morning.

First Aurora jumped up on the footstool.

Then Sydney climbed up on my leg.

She did have some balance issues.

And then something amazing happened. Not since Mal, and before her Daisy.........
