I tried one of your old tricks last night Bob. I tried to entice a chicken selfie by setting up the phone, putting it on the ground and placing nibbles on the shutter press. Much curiosity was forthcoming but no chicken selfies.

So I've only got a photo I took to share. It was a lucky photo because Ivy was out of view a moment later.

I need to try that again. I never got one of Maleficent. I wonder what Phyllis would look like in a selfie?

Hello. Sounds like everyone’s flocks are doing well. May I share an update on mine? Ruby (3-yr-old Buckeye with oviduct issues) is responding quite well to her treatment. Swelling is down, tail is up, vocalizations are somewhat back and appetite has returned. She still has a second week of antibiotics to go since the vet found yolk and old blood in her coelemic fluid. Dorothy (mostly White Leghorn pullet with shell making issues) has done great with calcium citrate therapy. There were two eggs (one each day) laid in a weird spot and broken, so I gave her a couple days of calcium again. She’s a tough one. I suspect poor genetics, but will do my best to give her a good life. I have seen her sitting a couple times, but is mostly vocal, active, etc. Bridge (4-yr-old Barred Rock, alpha hen a.k.a. “Boss Bird”) laid a couple eggs after a diet, but stopped. She seems great, but is a little full in the abdomen. Everyone else seems pretty status quo. Oh, except Cashew (3-yr-old Buff Orp who raised chicks last year) is starting to do the walking broody bit. I have not seen her sit on eggs, but there’s a particular sound she’s making. Today she made the sound and puffed her feathers to transform into a beach ball, I assume in an attempt to intimidate Bridge from attacking her imaginary chicks.

Since posts are more fun with photos and videos, I’ll include one of each!

Fluffy Butts Scratching in Mint
(Ruby, Cashew, Buttercup, Ester and Minnie)
They are all beautiful. That mint warrior video could be an ad for this thread! :gig

I'm glad to hear that Ruby is responding well. It sounds like the flock is doing pretty well overall and I'm glad.

Oh ma ga, yall! I woke up and to an almost nightmare! I was in the kitchen making breakfast and I look out and see Nilky walking around their yard !!! I froze!!! I know I put them up but the days can run together so perhaps I forgot a day!!!?? So I take the eggs off the stove and run out praying that I do not find a massacre in the coop!! As I approach the run/coop I do not see anyone walking around and am terrified as they should be out and about by now as it’s been daylight for at least 20 minutes! Then I see that the door is locked and the gals start pouring out of the coop....:th(my coop is open to the run but not the yard).... apparently Nilky got locked out last night!! So all was safe and she managed to stay alive:yesss:..... I cannot begin to explain the feeling of terror to think that I could’ve possibly killed all my chickens!! I literally was shaking in the knees!! And still shaken up for a good 10 minutes afterwards!! This evening there will be double checks all around!!!!

Every night I count 32 birds in the coop. If I don't count 32, I will scour the whole property late into the evening to find her/him, If I don't locate the missing bird, I panic. I know EXACTLY how you feel!
