Oh ma ga, yall! I woke up and to an almost nightmare! I was in the kitchen making breakfast and I look out and see Nilky walking around their yard !!! I froze!!! I know I put them up but the days can run together so perhaps I forgot a day!!!?? So I take the eggs off the stove and run out praying that I do not find a massacre in the coop!! As I approach the run/coop I do not see anyone walking around and am terrified as they should be out and about by now as it’s been daylight for at least 20 minutes! Then I see that the door is locked and the gals start pouring out of the coop....:th(my coop is open to the run but not the yard).... apparently Nilky got locked out last night!! So all was safe and she managed to stay alive:yesss:..... I cannot begin to explain the feeling of terror to think that I could’ve possibly killed all my chickens!! I literally was shaking in the knees!! And still shaken up for a good 10 minutes afterwards!! This evening there will be double checks all around!!!!
Oh my gosh! How terrifying. I am so glad everything is ok. :hugs :hugs

Last night I had a "late to the coop" hen (Sunshine) came walking up after I locked the barn/coop up. I just took her inside with me for the night. She's still here watching me type this.
:love:caf:highfive:
That's awesome! That will teach her to be late. :gig

Every night I count 32 birds in the coop. If I don't count 32, I will scour the whole property late into the evening to find her/him, If I don't locate the missing bird, I panic. I know EXACTLY how you feel!
This is why I have an automated door, a camera in the coop, and an alarm on my phone every day to check the coop. It had happened too many times to me and I only have 6 hens! That feeling is awful. I never want to feel it again.

My joy, is to see all of them come in from the yard in the evening. And see them awaken in the morning. I guess you could call me a "human pop door"!

Glowing

Aurora was positively glowing as she sat next to me the other day.

Fat Bird was Majors hen. She is the only one in the tribe who isn't direct family. I engineered the introduction of Cillin to Fat Bird and Ruffles who were all that remained of Tribe 1 a few years ago.
It is quite difficult to get ones head around, but if Fat Bird is anyones hen, she's mine. We've known each other for a decade
Awww... I love this response. Almost brought me to tears!
