I love the deep cluck of the broody. She is beautiful. I love her coloring. Nothing like a hen in your lap!
Thank you! I agree she is beautiful. She is also docile and sweet. Interesting that two of my most gentle and sweet hens went broody. Though Millie has been especially mean to the pullets lately and now I know why!

Some Photos from the Weekend

I did not see the ladies at all yesterday so here are a couple of pictures from the weekend.

Lilly having some watermelon.

Phyllis continues to be underfoot but for a while she helped Mrs BY Bob with the laundry.

I had some friends come and groom themselves on Mrs BY Bob's chair while I was reading.

One thing I can't figure out and that makes me sort of melancholy is when Aurora hops up on the footstool in front of me. Aurora has never permitted herself to be touched, even when she came new to us as a 6 week old. I could not get near her. Her sister Maleficent was the complete opposite. As you all know she loved just hanging out with me. I could touch her anytime I wanted. I always felt that Aurora only hung out with me because she wanted to be with Mal.

So my question, why come anywhere within touching distance of me willingly and hang out on my footstool? Especially when there is no snack to be gained? All I can figure is that somewhere in her mind there is a happy memory of doing this with Mal.

Maybe, social distancing

Don't drive angry either. I was stupid today. So angry about losing my beloved Sunshine, I took a drive in the country. I have an area, not patrolled by police or Sheriff, so i did 130mph in my Lexus, until I asked myself "Alex, what the f@## are you doing" I then stopped and cried some more, then went home.

I’m glad you recognised you weren’t in the right headspace before anything happened. Be kind to yourself and give yourself as much time as you need to grieve. :hugs

Could be. Could also be that she wants to be near you just because.

Watch it @featherhead007 she never forgets. :D
Nor do I ! Dont pick on me today, please. I found My hen Sunshine dead on the coop floor just now, and I'm very very very upset. Her lifeless body was still warm when I took her out of the barn/coop. So, don't expect any jokes from me today, this hurts me really bad.:hit:hit:hit:hit:hit:hit:hit:hit:hit:hit:hitHer eyes were closed, so hopefully, she passed in her sleep.

Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear that.

It seems that my rooster, BEN knew i was sad over losing Sunshine. He has been by my side all day, so was Rocks-Anne one of my BR's I guess I'm reminded.."if you lose the ones you love, love the ones you are with" God Bless my chickens!
Animals can be amazingly intuitive that way, it seems.

It's just the mental image some of these accidental slips of phrase conjure!

I could just picture @featherhead007 "planking" on top of the TV stand for bedtime! :lau

Of course your morning beating before a loving cup of coffee is also hilarious Bob! :gig

:hugsSo sorry Featherhead. That's not the sort of surprise anyone wants. Sounds like it was quick for her at least. All the hugs to you :hugs

If heaven has no chickens there, I'm not going! My heaven IS my chickens! :hit
Me too.

When my first dog died when I was a kid I said pretty much the same thing to me Mum and I still think so. I want to go where my animals are.

Can you imagine how great the free ranging would be in heaven? Sooooo many chickens! 🤗
