Interesting how they spread out. Mine all bunch together even now it is warm.
Not since Patsy passed has anyone cuddled together. Everyone has separated, even in winter. Here they are from when they used to cuddle.

Hot Lava

When my brother and I were small we invented a game one rainy day to keep ourselves occupied. The game was called "Lava". The principal of the game was quite simple. The floor was lava. The only way to keep from dying was to stay on the furniture. If any part of you touched the ground, you were burned up by the lava and the other person won. There were multiple variations on the game, sometimes there was a quest and the teo of us would have to work together to retrieve something from across the room. Other times it would be a race or of course, a Battle Royale to force the other one to touch the floor. We had great fun playing it although we did too over a lot of furniture, we never broke anything. (That I can remember)

So why tell you about this? By early afternoon yesterday, the hens in my flock were treating the sunlight light like lava. And like little boys, they seemed to get as close as they could without venturing into it. Check this out.

Smart hens!

I was thinking "wait... Why is my foot not working?"
I have been wondering about that one's feet but checking it out will have to wait until tomorrow morning when we transfer them to the brooder. You should have heard my 7-year-old saying she hoped to fall asleep quickly tonight so morning would come quicker!

Hesitantly I tell you BOB, my Rhode Island Red 3.5 yrs old, had sour crop this AM. I tried to help drain the mass of stinky fluid. I carefully massaged her crop, tilted her body down, and she let out a lot (3/4 cup) but stopped breathing. choking, and died right in my arms. I buried her this morning, before church. Jaffar is weak, but he ran with the ladies half a day. But He's weak still, and when it turned very windy here, I took him inside. He's here with me right now.
And Rocket, didn't return to eat or drink today with the rest of the flock. That's my sad story!
