The heat gets quite bad where I live too. I put a misting system in the henhouse and it works like a big evaporative air conditioner, reducing the temperature by about 10 degrees Celsius, which is quite a lot. It doesn't go through much water, only a couple of litres an hour.
I have been thinking about this since yesterday. I am thinking about installing one in the big run. Did you buy it somewhere or invent it yourself?

Hello There

Eve got up close abs personal with her first chicken today. She had simply been exceptional with the cats. No grabbing or pulling. So much so Davis was hanging with her on the floor today.

So the plan was to big in Phyllis for hef to meet one on one but Phyllis was laying her eggs so Sydney volunteered.

Again no grabbing or pulling. And those hens that do special tasks get special treats. :love

I bought it from Bunnings, which is a big hardware store chain. I have a feeling Bunnings is similar to TSC, except it doesn't carry livestock.

Eve's facial expression makes me think she's making sense of Sydney.

As you probably worked out, I don't collect eggs on a regular basis.
Knock had a accumulated a bit of a pile in one of the coops. Yesterday she decided to sit. Today, she abandoned the sit. I collected the eggs. All 23 of them! I think between the size of the pile and the heat she thought better of it. She went off to roost with her tribe completely unconcerned tonight. Phew.
Barking Bracket on the other hand I know has been getting donations from the rest of the tribe from time to time. I've been too busy to deal with Bracket and left her to it. She's had one coop clean since she first sat 6 days ago. There were six eggs then which I left with her.
I cleaned the coop today and she had accumulated eleven eggs. I break open all the eggs that have been sat on and only two out of the eleven were developing. I think the young cockerel is trying to mate with the hens and not getting it right because they shake him off. Punch and Mag are not showing much interest in mating the hens, especially when the young cockerel seems to be doing the job.
More recently, Mag has been 'interrupting' the young cockerels attempts and that must also reduce the fertility rate.

A Very Special Thank You

To @LozzyR . I read Eve the books this morning. At least 5 times each. She made me keep going over and over again. She just loved them. She pointed at the pictures, helped me yo turn the pages, and just made me keep going and going.

Thank you so much! :love
