Punch. Vain, indolent and generally indifferent. But, he's a fine looking chap and the tribes boss.
That's Tack on the step above. She been moulting much to my surprise. She isn't quite a year old yet.

He is like a rainbow rooster. He has all the best rooster colors in him. Punch reminds me a lot of my Rooster Cogburn. Rooster Cogburn was smaller but coloured very much the same. I so wish I had a photo of him.

Serious question on this. Sometimes on Picture of the Week you see chickens - usually roosters I think - who seem to be tethered by their leg. It looks like they have a leash fitted to their ankle that presumably stops them running away. Do people really do that? That seems unkind. Is it a show thing? I was shocked the first time I saw it but then I saw it many more times so I wondered if I just didn't understand enough. Maybe it is just for the photo shoot?
I have never noticed that. I must become more observant. I can't imagine doing that to any of my ladies. 🤯

The Great Escape

The Great Escape is an amazing film from 1963 starting Steve McQueen and James Garner among others. It is the basis for the cartoon movie Chicken Run and McQeen's character is the basis for the chicken Ginger.

I have been continuously lampooning @Ribh and her plan to lock in her run by utilizing this film. I have even gone so far as to compare her to the evil owner, Mrs. Tweedy.

Its time for me to take some of my own medicine. Perhaps I have become Mr. Tweedy?

I think I have my own Ginger in my flock. Ginger is obsessed with escaping and is the one who designs and executes their escapes.

My flock has had no free range time since the ceramic egg moving incident. They have been stuck in the complex while I try to find something that may explain it (other than Phyllis' purse).

Well it looks like Phyllis is now my Ginger. She has already breached the perimeter fenca, the only chicken to ever do so. Now she is working on the coop complex.

I caught her on film trying to tunnel out. Watch as I catch her on camera. At first she is wandering around, nothing to see here, then she goes into her deep hole that she has dug where there is an intersection in the walls of the complex that is partially hidden from the camera. Very sneaky.

She is not alone however. About a minute in, her co-conspirator arrives to help point out where to dig. 😆
Little escape artist! Would you believe, I’ve never seen those films? I seriously need to.

So happy. Had to share this. Looks like I have one flock!
In reality of course Maggie has her fluffy butt to the Little Princesses and was intent in something or other and didn’t notice them come close. Only a minute later she turned and chased them off.
but for one lovely minute I had a peaceful flock of five. Ahhhhh. So nice.
