The New Roost is Up

I installed the new small roost for Phyllis today. It is up high enough that Aurora cannot reach her from the ground and small enough that if Phyllis is on it, there is no place for anyone else to land. It is also small enough to be uncomfortable for any of the bigger girls to squeeze onto it. Here it is.

So did Phyllis use it tonight? What do you think?

I’ve noticed it takes them a while to get used to something new. I made an outdoor nesting box to alleviate some of the traffic jams and it got ignored for quite a while! Now Charlie appeared to have claimed exclusivity on it.

A chicken to help the mood!

Eeek! I missed whole pages in my slightly muddled catchup yesterday! Now more comments make sense... :p
Correct on both, although older people might be exact and say a quilt is something that has been emboidered and sits on top of blankets and sheets.
Anybody remember blankets? :D
Yes and yes! Most quilts here are thin, and stuffed with a cotton batten layer, thicker false duvets are cheaply available with synthetic batt filling and usually described as comforters. I have several Wool blankets, and feather duvet. And now a comforter as well  (DH saw it on sale at Walmart and decided we needed yet another bed cover) We layer up for winter... edit to add: the duvet was DH’s first Christmas gift to me, replacing the -10degree sleeping bag I was using in my dad’s basement suite, which was also basically an icebox! He started getting all Fancy and replacing my random “it works???” Bedding bit by bit.
I think it's time to shop for an incubator. Suggestions most welcome.
I suggest not the Little Giant Styrofoam one if you can find something better! How many eggs are you thinking of hatching and from who? Phyllis... have you been having Date nights with BLU? ;)

Rocks-Anne has been laying consistently, but wont go broody or sit for very long. (She's my only fertile egg laying hen) "Thank you Jaffar"!

I don't really follow American politics. I did however read a column which explained how local individuals of all political persuasions man the voting stations and count the votes. The writer went on to say if there was a guard to the integrity of America's democracy then these ordinary people are it.
So @BY Bob I tip my hat to you for being one such person no matter what what your politics and while what happens in Amercia is becoming less and less important to the rest of the world I would like to thank you for your service.:hugs:thumbsup
That is very kind of you to say. Sometimes I think I share more than I should on this website but it just slips out. Right now I am living in fear that I am going to be pulled into court over something. My heart sank Wednesday afternoon when the election bureau showed up on my phone. Fortunately, it was just someone thought they might have left their drivers license at the polls. I will be so glad when everything is done.

I have to decide whether to run for re-election next year. I have doing this for nearly 16 years now and right now I don’t know if I have the stomach to keep doing it. Posts Ike yours make me feel better about what I have been doing. It truly is much appreciated.

So, after that super lengthy introduction post and now that is is light out, I give you all “Little Red” almost 4 months old, now very suspicious of strange tall thing that keeps picking him up. View attachment 2401265
Upon morning release and feeding he took off back to the field he has been in the last two weeks, so he is still not flocking with Sammy and the girls yet, but at least he accepts them as sleeping buddies. And that travel trailer in the background is going to become my winter chicken housing... very soon.
I like the cut of his jib. I can see why you kept him. I will be excited to see the trailer turned into chicken housing. That sounds like a great project. Will you be getting them one of those camera doorbells so they can make sure it is you and not some raccoon knocking at their door?
