What I have learned from the video cameras is that both rats and mice are formidable diggers! But it is not the digging that is the issue, it is small spaces where two pieces of hardware cloth come together that create the opportunity for entry.Funny you should ask. Historically no. But something is going on. I have noticed an opening by where the food dish goes in the run. My cameras have found nothing but I'm going to do a reposition tonight. I filled the hole in and it looks like something re-opened it. I want to catch what it is on flim before I kill it so I know what I am actually dealing with.
I assume it is the change in season but it seems like in the last few weeks hundreds of these little critters want to
Yes, I was thinking about planting peppermint around the outside, but I haven't given up on the aspiration of complete exclusion. The cameras tell me where they are digging and that usually means there is a gap between two pieces of hardware cloth that I can patch.I often feed right from the ground and I don't have any rodent issues. That being said I also have 3 indoor/outdoor cats that are very good hunters.
If memory serves me peppermint is a very good deterrent, if you don't want to use poison.
