Hooray Queenie! :clap :clap I am so glad this worked out so well for you and Queenie. You did a good thing.

Roosting time is insane here so I'm not going to throw any stones. As long as they all get inside safe and sound that's all that matters.

I'm glad Queenie is working out with everyone here too. That was a worry, that she has had to start from ground zero here with no friends, and that her personality might not jive with everyone. Glad she has the smarts and gumption to figure out how to fit in. Glad for all the support here from you and everyone here on this thread, thank you!

By the way, and maybe this would help explain her behavior, Hazel has been calling a lot this morning and wandering around, she went up into the coop too (Queenie climbed the ladder halfway to check that out) but she came out soon, still calling. Methinks she's getting ready to lay her first egg. I did see a Buckeye that was eating like sewing-machine Hazel at the oyster shell yesterday. Queenie is calling in response it seems. When Hazel gets going Queenie is answering? The run is pretty noisy! I love it.

Hmmm I appreciate straight talk and here it is expressed plainly and kindly. I'm very interested in the dynamics of everyone's flock and want to hear about all of them! I am working on getting video up, there's been family business taking up lots of time but there's a lull now.

Panic this evening! Hens and BLU went into the coop. But no Jaffar. I heard a panic chicken noise out by the front gate. Saw a stray dog in my yard. I searched everywhere for my roo, and found him cowering deep inside an overgrown willow. Jaffar is safe, no physical signs of injury.
He is shaken up though. Tomorrow will be a day of finding and reinforcing my perimeter fencing! :old :fl:mad::eek:
Close call. Good to have the escape trees and bushes around!

This is exciting. If Hazel is getting ready to lay that would also explain her irritation. Here's hoping she delivers that first beautiful egg soon!

Baby goats are distracting. 😆
True, though I was trying to make a serious point that got stuffed up by the goat distraction.
My point was to thank everyone for creating such a lovely, supportive and kind community and a wonderful global virtual flock.
BYC is generally a respectful place relative to the real world of social media, but even in BYC this stands out as a wonderful community.
So I just wanted to say thank you for everyone contributing to that and for letting me and my Princesses participate.

Very exciting - are you going to make anything special with the first eggs?

How can they in good concious refuse to see a sick animal? I don't understand that philosophy. Well I have enough animals to take care of, any other sick animals can just suffer and die. Vets just continue to fall in my eyes. Their ethics are terrible.
I agree, they apparently see themselves like human physicians who can decide not to take any new patients. Only in human Emergency rooms (at least in New York State) can doctors NOT REFUSE emergency care. The difference is that they ARE the emergency room for chickens and all other animals we care for!

Not really. I have hardly had the mental capacity to anticipate and look forward to eggs, been focusing so much on the roosting dynamics and Queenie's integration! Frankly my first reaction was just "WOW, already? Cool. But so soon? This is too much!" I carefully fried it up in olive oil and butter, a little salt and pepper, and DH and I split it. It had a nice deep orange color and was delicious!

I have been elsewhere too on BYC, I follow a few nice people and am interested in the topics but have been a little shocked at what feels like snarkiness. I retreat back to you folks. Maybe the moderators aren't able to keep up?

Yes - just wanted to say thank you for how lovely everyone on these threads are. Definitely the best of BYC!
I think I got distracted by baby goats while I was typing my gratitude!
Sarcasm so thick, I couldn't cut it with a chainsaw!:sick At least it sounded like it.
