I've tried in the past to get a picture of Hinge that shows the flap of skin just below her wattles. This flap of skin didn't die after the second hawk attack she survived. She's survived three so far. This years moult was the first time the skin under the flap grew feathers. In fact, this year has been the first year that Hinge has produced such a magnificent feather growth all over.

It is. I was going to stitch it at first but there wasn't enough left to cover the whole wound. I guess the hawk had the rest. Hinge is pretty feral and not at all happy about being handled. In the end I just kept the patch under the flap clean. This meant taking her off the roost morning and night. Once I was confident the wound was clean I smothered it in Stockholm Hoof Tar so she could remain with her tribe.
None of the bantams take confinnement well unfortunately and the added stress should I have stitched her (it would have meant confinement while she healed so I could be sure the stitches held) of being stuck with me for a week or so didn't seem the right approach.

Check in with a WholeFoods if there is one near you? They were fairly good for things like that when I started there, but service will vary greatly from location to location, and I have hardly been since the Amazon purchase.

Oh thank you for that suggestion - we have one nearby that I never go to. Will give it a go.

I have maybe settled on a name for the little one. Arduinna... (ardwenna) thoughts? It’s a Gaulish Forest Goddess name. I was looking for forest in different languages, and DH hasn’t objected too strongly to this offering. He might just be tired from goat sitting while I did morning chore prep for making that early boat with Roostie and baby goat. Wish us luck, we both still need supper and showers, and to organize and pack up the truck.

It is a lot quieter since Patsy passed. It's rare that I get a Bok-Off now. Mostly only over the best nest box. It's usually Lilly just hanging out and plugging one up.

I love the term “Bok-Off”! I’ll have to use it.

It was the first time in ages last night. The first time she did it the Faverolles were still sleeping in the quarantine tractor.

A little sunrise for you all today is my work Friday hooray! Just 4 more hours to go... supposed to get 2-4" of rain in the next 36-48 hours, so wish I was home to finish stapling down the shower curtain!
