Still could have been COVID. Many people have limited or even no symptoms. It is one of the things that makes it so easy to spread.Still waiting for my test results. One day..that's all! With the not smelling things right, and barely any taste. Today.. every thing is back to normal. My kids say, this happens for some, one day of a symptom or symptoms and then none the next. Not sure what that was. I'm guessing I'm negative..
Mine love to scratch in the coop. I love that they do. That's why I built it.Today started dark and very wet, so dark the ladies didn't bother leaving the coop when I opened their door at 7:45. They just chattered at me a few minutes later when I brought out fresh water for the run and shook the feeder to make sure it wasn't damp. At 9:30 my dh Bill comes in to grab some scratch and bugs (grubs) for them and says they have finally decided to come out. I figured I would have stayed in too, it was a nasty wet and windy morning, although I would have expected them to have come out to eat at least.
About 3:30 I went to give them "dinner" and check to see if the coop needed a quick clean. I thought oh hey I guess Bill raked it out already (not common) so i went in and asked, nope. That was all them he says, sounded like they were rearranging furniture all morning!
It is now minutes from midnight and 62°! Still pouring rain, we need it, but not all at once, too much flooding after our fires this summer.
Thanks! That’s Ester inside the (human) house. What a wonderful countenance! I also love Barred Rocks!
These are amazing. I assume you made your own costumes? How comfortable were they all?OK, SCA photos take two. Some general shots and some ones of me. I'm between the ages of 18 and circa 23 in these photos.

Quick question. How often do you rotate the eggs?Today is the start of day 7 incubation on the 10 eggs in the incubator. I decided to go ahead and candle for the first time thinking I would have trouble seeing anything on the 6 Marans eggs. All 10 so far have good air sacks and veining. It was harder to see in the Marans eggs, but thankfully my light was strong enough to barely make out the veins. Since i saw signs of life in them all i'm not opening it back up until day 14 for the 2nd check. It is exciting being able to actually candle and see signs of life in the eggs. Was not able to do it when my girls were brooding Even my friendly Holly last year went into attack mode if you attempted to reach under her and momma hen is just a terrorist throughout the whole process. From the start of incubation until the chicks are a minimum of about 4 weeks old you look at her the wrong way and she's out for blood.
You are a great person Bob, don’t ever think otherwise! And understanding our own limitations is both precious, and hard earned. And the way we all find that point is hitting the “I could never do that again” point. Finding your own limits breaks you a little bit. Hopefully only a little bit. But they are things we need to find out on our own. (Or I might have been a Vet, myself)
But you were still there for them, and that difference was everything to them, I’m sure. That’s what really matters in the end.
Kris,Ok, home now, and yes Roostie is here with us, well with his ladies all tucked in, for the night; and he’s going to stay with us as long as I can keep him comfortable.
I saw the head Vet, that owns the practice... and yes... it’s a very, very fancy (pricey) vet office. He used a lot of big fancy words too, lol. After explaining to the vet assistant that that’s more than we can responsibly commit to Roostie (financially speaking, and with his chances of both survival and longevity, as a Ranger-type meat breed) and that we would take him home and euthanize him in accordance with proper humane standards when his quality of life has declined to the point that it becomes necessary, hopefully as far in the future as possible.
The assistant countered with a “maybe we can prescribe some pain meds and try the antibiotics?” Well, I know better than to Actually ask for any drugs, so I asked “how much?” Instead... and he’s now on 500 mg of amoxicillin/cepha(I can’t look at it right now cause the kid is finally asleep on my lap, but I had the meds name in my last ‘disappeared’ post) something twice a day for ten days. Fingers crossed it helps... that’s 1000mg a day for my not quite 11lb boyo. He has definitely lost some weight over this. I was also able to finagle some betadine, so if the infection points (highly unlikely) I can lance it and debride any necrotic tissue, and clean it more effectively.
That’s where we are at for now. I’m running on a couple hours of spotty interrupted sleep, and have been up for 17 long, long hours... so please excuse my spelling, punctuation, and awful grammar. Dinner happening soon. And Arduinna is now probably the second most photographed goat in the SGI (southern gulf Islands) after Millie (the last local “celebrity” goat raised by a local author/photographer, to answer a previous question, I think by ACM? Or CCCL?, sorry I’m a little scrambled and behind as usual)
What a gorgeous butt! There is no need to ask to join in. Just be respectful of everyone else and have some fun!Alrighty. I have hit page 400 in this thread but being so focussed on catching up (and there is still a lot to go) I feel I am missing out on interacting with the ‘now’ thread and what you guys are sharing so I will try to switch between.
Apologies I keep posting replies to things from a year or so ago! I know it can throw the flow of the thread off but things I have come across in my early @BY Bob thread trawl have resonated with my current situation so I felt compelled to comment/ ask questions etc.
I already feel I have learnt a lot by starting at the beginning (page 1) on here, my flock dynamic with the new pullets being one of them, so thank you to all you guys for posting such informative and unique observations in here.
I know I am new to all of the threads but I want to say a big thank you again to @MaryJanet for inviting me to join her flock thread when I joined BYC recently, which has now led me to here also ☺ and thank you to @BY Bob for letting me join his flock and read about the happenings on Fluffy Butt Acres
I realised just now that I never asked if I could join in. MJ asked me into hers and then I kinda just smashed my way in here and I apologise for such an impolite entrance and etiquette.
Anyway, to show my appreciation I took the first fluffy butt shot of Snow ever today (she’s 11ish weeks) even though her tail is covering it a bit but I think I have discovered that she is last in the order and my Belle (Babybel) is perhaps second even though she is smaller and very ADHD (plus being cheeky and so cute)
